Toyota Vietnam (TMV) has issued a recall for the Land Cruiser 300 models manufactured from May 2021 to January 2024. A total of 930 Land Cruiser 300 units were produced during this period.
The issue lies with the affected vehicles’ transmission, which utilizes pistons to engage the clutch plates with the steel plates, facilitating power transfer from the engine to the wheels. When shifting into neutral, the pistons are supposed to release pressure to disengage the clutch plates from the steel plates. However, it has been identified that the clutch friction plates may not immediately separate from the steel plates, resulting in a partial power transmission to the wheels.
If this occurs on level ground and the driver does not apply the brakes or engage the parking brake, the vehicle could move forward at a maximum speed of 6.4 km/h.
TMV will update the automatic transmission control software to rectify this issue. The estimated time for this procedure is approximately 30 minutes.
The Land Cruiser 300 was introduced to the Vietnamese market in 2021. Despite a suggested retail price of over VND 4.2 billion, this SUV has been consistently in high demand, with wait times of several months. The scarcity has driven up the actual selling price by several hundred million VND, and in some cases, close to VND 1 billion higher than the suggested price.
