Vietnamese automaker VinFast has recently announced a recall program to inspect and replace components free of charge for 2,097 electric vehicles in Vietnam. The affected vehicles include the VinFast VF e34, VF5 Plus, VF6 Plus, VF8, and VF9 models.
According to VinFast, due to a supplier issue, the VF e34 and VF5 Plus models produced between September 9, 2023, and April 11, 2024, may experience loosening of the bolts securing the high-voltage battery’s upper shell, potentially compromising the water-resistance design. The recall affects 23 VF e34 and 131 VF5 Plus vehicles.
VinFast will inspect and tighten the bolts securing the upper shell of the high-voltage battery. In cases where the bolts are loose, the company will replace the high-voltage battery. The estimated repair time is 3.95 hours. The recall program is expected to run from May 24 to July 10, 2024.
For the VinFast VF6 Plus models manufactured between March 18 and April 9, 2024, a supplier issue may cause the brake oil pipe connector to crack, potentially leading to brake oil leakage. If the brake oil level drops below the minimum threshold, the control screen will display a warning, and the braking system’s effectiveness will be reduced. There are 47 vehicles suspected to be affected.
VinFast will inspect and replace the brake oil pipes free of charge for the affected VinFast VF6 Plus vehicles. The estimated repair time is 2.2 hours. The program is expected to run from May 24 to June 7, 2024.
Meanwhile, the VF8 and VF9 models produced between August 2022 and March 2024 may have been equipped with incorrect airbag types in certain positions. After a period of use (approximately 10,000 km), the screen will display an airbag fault warning and request an inspection.
If the vehicle is fitted with an incorrect airbag type, in a specific collision scenario, the airbag may not deploy, reducing the protection for occupants. The recall affects 1,134 VF8 Eco and 762 VF9 vehicles. Both the Eco and Plus versions of these models are impacted.
The company will inspect and replace the airbags free of charge if they are found to be of the incorrect type. The estimated repair time for VF 8 is 5.25 hours, and for VF 9, it is 9.45 hours. The program is expected to run from May 24 to September 24, 2024.
VinFast has notified the Vietnam Registry Bureau and will contact each affected vehicle owner to arrange for their vehicles to be inspected and repaired free of charge at authorized service centers.
