The D-segment sedan is no longer a favored choice in the Vietnamese automotive market, as evident by their sales figures for April 2024. A majority of the models in this segment witnessed a decline in sales, except for the Toyota Camry. Furthermore, none of the models surpassed a sales figure of 150 units.

D-Segment Sedan Sales Table for April 2024 (units: cars)
Toyota Camry: 133 units
In April 2024, Toyota sold 133 units of the Camry to Vietnamese customers, achieving a growth rate of 1.5%. This was the only model in the D-segment sedan category to experience positive growth. With these results, the Toyota Camry solidifies its position as the sales leader in this segment.
Toyota Camry
In Vietnam, the Toyota Camry is currently offered in four different variants, with prices ranging from VND 1.105 billion to VND 1.495 billion. Despite the relatively high price tag, this model remains the top choice in the D-segment sedan category due to its elegant design, spacious and well-equipped interior, and the trusted Toyota brand.
The Toyota Camry in Vietnam is available with three different engine options. The first is a 2.0L gasoline engine that delivers a maximum output of 170 horsepower and a peak torque of 206 Nm, paired with a CVT transmission. The second option is a more powerful 2.5L gasoline engine that produces 207 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Lastly, there is a hybrid powertrain that combines a gasoline engine, an electric motor, and a CVT transmission, resulting in a combined output of 264 horsepower.
Additionally, the Camry is equipped with advanced safety features such as lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, smart headlights, eight sensors, and a 360-degree camera.
Mazda6: 32 units
The Mazda6 was the second best-selling model in the D-segment sedan category for April 2024, with 32 units sold. However, it experienced a 15.7% decline in sales compared to the previous month, falling behind the Toyota Camry.
Mazda6
The Mazda6 is priced competitively in Vietnam, with a price range of VND 779 million to VND 914 million. This makes it the most affordable sedan in the D-segment. In addition to its attractive pricing, the Mazda6 boasts a sleek exterior design and a host of convenient and safety features.
Specifically, the Mazda6 is equipped with a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive LED headlights, lane departure warning, radar cruise control, collision warning, smart brake support, lane-keeping assist, driver attention alert, and more.
Under the hood, the Mazda6 offers two gasoline engine options: the SkyActiv-G 2.0 and the SkyActiv-G 2.5. The 2.0L engine produces 154 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque, while the 2.5L engine generates 188 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Kia K5: 17 units
Similar to the Mazda6, the Kia K5 also experienced a decline in sales in April 2024, with only 17 units sold. This represents a significant drop of 46.8% compared to the previous month. Once again, the Kia K5 finds itself on the list of the 10 worst-selling cars in the market.
Kia K5
The Kia K5 offers a competitive price range of VND 859 million to VND 999 million. It also features a youthful and sporty design, along with a decent array of convenience and safety features.
The Kia K5 comes with LED lighting, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, power-adjustable passenger seat, head-up display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Bose sound system with 12 speakers, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, remote engine start, and wireless phone charging.
Customers can choose between two engine options for the Kia K5. The first is a 2.0L Nu MPI engine that delivers 150 horsepower and 192 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second option is a more powerful 2.5L Theta-III GDi engine that produces 191 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Honda Accord: 5 units
April 2024 was not a successful month for the Honda Accord either, with only 5 units sold. This represents a significant decline of 54.5% compared to the previous month. Like the Kia K5, the Honda Accord has consistently ranked among the 10 worst-selling cars in the market.
Honda Accord
For May 2024, Honda is offering a cash discount of up to VND 220 million on the Accord, similar to the promotion offered in April. However, this incentive does not seem to have significantly boosted sales in April 2024.
The Honda Accord’s poor sales performance can be attributed to its high price of VND 1.319 billion for a single variant. However, the Accord offers a spacious interior and a highly-regarded driving experience within the segment.
The Honda Accord is powered by a turbocharged 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 188 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and offers two driving modes: Eco and Sport. Additionally, the Accord comes equipped with safety features such as collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist.
Honda Accord: 40 Years of Automotive Excellence
Looking at the Vietnamese car market right now and humorously comparing it, we will see Camry as a well-behaved young girl, not outstanding in every aspect but easily becoming the choice of the “other half”. Teana, on the other hand, is like a dignified and tranquil woman, full of courage. Meanwhile, Mazda6 is like a hot girl, quickly attracting and captivating anyone’s gaze from the first encounter. As for Accord – with the elegance and experiences of a U30 lady, even though she is always praised by everyone, she hides something “difficult to deal with” in the minds of the majority.
