There’s a lot of buzz surrounding BYD in the domestic media, as the Chinese automotive manufacturing giant is set to launch in Vietnam this June with six main models, two of which have already been spotted in leaked photos.
Previously, it was the Seal, and now, the “dolphin” BYD Dolphin – one of the best-selling BYD models in several ASEAN and European markets – has also been spotted in Vietnam.
BYD’s most affordable model makes its debut in Vietnam with an estimated price of 700 million VND
The presence of the “dolphin” model in Vietnam has sparked significant interest, as it is currently BYD’s most affordable offering. However, with an estimated price of 700 million VND, many are concerned about the future of the BYD Dolphin in the face of tough competition.
In its home market, the BYD Dolphin has just released the 2024 Honor Edition with positive changes, most notably a reduced price to boost its competitiveness against other models. The BYD Dolphin Honor Edition comes in four configurations with three main ranges: 302 km, 401 km, and 420 km.
The BYD Dolphin is positioned as a small, all-electric vehicle with a front-end design inspired by the familiar “aesthetic sea” concept, creating a rounded and lively feel. From the side, the car features a new low-wind resistance wheel design, one of the most significant exterior changes between the BYD Dolphin Honor Edition and the 2023 model. Additionally, the 2024 BYD Dolphin will offer rear privacy glass and a new Atlantis grey body color, as well as a deep red option.
In terms of interior upgrades, the BYD Dolphin Honor Edition focuses on details like adding a Type-C charging interface for the front seats and upgrading to 50-watt wireless charging. Additionally, the front seats will be equipped with a ventilation function to enhance overall comfort.
The central control panel of the 2024 BYD Dolphin maintains a symmetrical design, with a full LCD 5-inch dashboard for a simple look. The new multi-functional three-spoke steering wheel and the centrally-mounted 12.8-inch control unit add a smart touch.
Under the hood, the BYD Dolphin is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor that delivers a maximum power of 70kW, equivalent to 94 horsepower, and a maximum torque of 180 Nm. The high-performance Knight edition features a more powerful motor with a maximum output of 130kW (approximately 174 horsepower) and a maximum torque of 290 Nm.
Depending on the version, the BYD Dolphin Honor Edition is fitted with batteries of different capacities: 32.256kWh, and 44.928kWh. As a result, the CLTC ranges are 302 km, 401 km, and 420 km, respectively. Additionally, the new model benefits from an upgraded independent four-link suspension system.
