April 2024 saw a slight dip in sales for automobile companies in Vietnam, affecting all segments, including MPVs. Most MPV models witnessed negative growth during this month, except for the Toyota Innova Cross, Honda BR-V, Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid, and Kia Carens.

Mitsubishi Xpander: 1,263 units sold
Mitsubishi Xpander’s sales performance in April 2024 aligned with the overall market dip, recording 1,263 units sold, a 20.1% decrease compared to March 2024. Despite this, the Xpander maintained its leading position in the Vietnamese MPV segment and secured a spot in the top 10 best-selling vehicles across the entire market for the month.

In May 2024, Mitsubishi is offering attractive promotions for the Xpander. Customers can enjoy a 100% registration fee waiver for the MT and AT versions, equivalent to a value of VND 56-60 million. Additionally, the MT version comes with a free rear-view camera worth VND 2.5 million, while the AT version offers a one-year physical insurance package worth VND 7.7 million. The AT Premium version is exclusively bundled with a 360-degree camera system worth VND 20 million and a fuel voucher worth VND 25 million. For the Xpander Cross, customers receive a fuel voucher worth VND 30 million and a 360-degree camera.
The Mitsubishi Xpander is currently available in Vietnam with four versions, priced between VND 560-698 million. The MT version is domestically assembled, while the other three versions are imported from Indonesia. All models are powered by a 1.5L gasoline engine that produces 105 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque, paired with a front-wheel-drive system and either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission.

The Toyota Innova Cross witnessed an impressive surge in sales during April 2024, achieving a remarkable 247.1% growth rate with 802 units sold. This outstanding performance propelled the Innova Cross to the second position in the MPV segment.

In previous months, the Innova Cross’s sales were modest due to supply shortages at dealerships. However, with a steady supply in April, the model showcased its true market appeal.
The Toyota Innova Cross is priced between VND 810-990 million and offers two engine options. The gasoline version is equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that delivers 172 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque, paired with a Direct Shift CVT transmission. Meanwhile, the hybrid version combines a 150-horsepower gasoline engine with a 111-horsepower electric motor and a CVT transmission.

Another Toyota model, the Veloz Cross, secured the third position in the MPV segment, with 525 units sold in April 2024, reflecting a 7.7% decrease.

For May 2024, the Toyota Veloz Cross offers customers a choice between two promotional packages. Package 1 includes a 0% interest rate for the first 12 months, while Package 2 offers a one-year Toyota insurance package (Gold level).
The Veloz Cross has a new selling price range of VND 638-660 million, which was adjusted in March 2024, making the model even more appealing to customers.
In addition to its competitive pricing, the Veloz Cross also boasts a reputable brand, a rugged SUV-inspired design, and advanced ADAS safety features. It is powered by a 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine that generates 105 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT transmission.

Ranking fourth in the Vietnamese MPV segment, the Kia Carnival sold 479 units in April 2024, a slight decrease of 3.8% compared to the previous month.

Despite its premium price range of VND 1.189-1.759 billion across seven versions, the Kia Carnival remains a popular choice among Vietnamese customers. This can be attributed to its spacious interior, convenient electric sliding doors, and comprehensive convenience and safety features.
Under the hood, the Kia Carnival offers two engine options: a 2.2L Smartstream 4-cylinder DOHC diesel engine that produces 199 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque, and a 3.5L Smartstream V6 DOHC 24-valve gasoline engine that delivers 268 horsepower and 331 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Suzuki XL7: 391 units sold
The Suzuki XL7 experienced a significant sales decline of 42.2% in April 2024, with 391 units sold. Despite this, the model maintained its fifth position in the MPV segment.

For May 2024, Suzuki is offering a similar promotion to its competitors, providing a 50% registration fee support worth VND 30 million for the XL7.
The XL7 is currently one of the most affordable MPV models in the Vietnamese market, with a price range of VND 599.9-639.9 million. This affordability comes with somewhat basic convenience and safety features. The XL7 is powered by a 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 103 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque, mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The Kia Carens was one of the few MPV models to achieve positive growth in April, with 349 units sold, reflecting a 5.1% increase. Interestingly, the Carens typically records lower sales figures than its sibling, the Carnival, despite its significantly lower price.

The Kia Carens is priced between VND 589-859 million and is one of the few MPVs in Vietnam to offer a 6-seat configuration.
The Carens also stands out for its diverse engine options, including a 1.5L naturally aspirated gasoline engine, a 1.4L turbocharged gasoline engine, and a 1.5L diesel engine. These engines are paired with a range of transmission choices, including a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic, a CVT, and a 7-speed DCT.
Honda BR-V: 321 units sold
The Honda BR-V continued its sales success in April, achieving an 18% growth rate with 321 units sold. This marks the second consecutive month of sales growth for this model.

In recent months, Honda has discontinued promotional programs for the BR-V. Nevertheless, the model has maintained its growth momentum despite its relatively high price range of VND 661-705 million for two versions.
Similar to the Mitsubishi Xpander, Kia Carens, Suzuki XL7, and Toyota Veloz Cross, the Honda BR-V sports a stylish MPV-SUV crossover design. In addition to its attractive looks, the BR-V also boasts a range of advanced ADAS safety features.
Under the hood, the Honda BR-V is equipped with a 1.5L i-VTEC 4-cylinder DOHC gasoline engine that produces 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT transmission and front-wheel drive.

In contrast to its direct competitor, the Toyota Innova Cross, the Hyundai Custin experienced a sales decline in April, selling only 212 units. This setback caused the model to slip in its segment ranking.

For May 2024, Hyundai is offering similar promotions to the previous month for the Custin. Customers can choose between two packages: Package 1 includes a preferential interest rate of 0% for the first 12 months (with principal grace period of up to 9 months depending on the bank), while Package 2 offers financial support of up to 50% of the registration fee.
Positioned in the mid-range MPV segment, the Hyundai Custin offers a spacious 7-seat interior, diverse convenience and safety features, and two engine options: a 2.0L Turbo GDi and a 1.5L Turbo GDi. These engines deliver 236 horsepower/353 Nm and 170 horsepower/253 Nm, respectively, both paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
