Pickup Truck Sales Table for April 2024 (units: vehicles)
Ford Ranger: 1,262 units
In April 2024, Ford sold 1,262 Ranger units to Vietnamese customers, a 17.8% decrease compared to the previous month. However, the Ford Ranger remains the top-selling pickup truck in the market and ranks among the top 10 best-selling automobiles in Vietnam for the month.
Ford Ranger
This May 2024, the Ford Ranger is offered with a 2-year extended warranty and a 2-year periodic maintenance package worth VND 20.145 million. Customers who purchase the Ford Ranger Raptor can choose between two gift packages: a 2-year extended warranty and 2-year periodic maintenance package, or a 2-year physical insurance package, both valued at VND 32.735 million.
The Ford Ranger’s popularity in Vietnam can be attributed to its modern and attractive design, comprehensive convenience and safety features, as well as its diverse range of versions and price points. Currently, the pickup truck has a total of eight versions, excluding the Raptor, with prices ranging from VND 669 million to VND 1.039 billion.
Under the hood, the Ford Ranger offers two diesel engine options with a 2.0L displacement. The first is a single-turbo engine that delivers a maximum output of 167 horsepower and a peak torque of 405 Nm. This engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The second engine is a twin-turbo unit, generating 207 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Mitsubishi Triton: 144 units
Similar to its rival, the Ford Ranger, the Mitsubishi Triton also faced a challenging month in terms of sales, with only 144 units sold. This represents a 33.3% decrease compared to March 2024. As a result, the Mitsubishi Triton maintains its second position in the pickup truck segment but falls far behind the Ford Ranger.
This May 2024, Mitsubishi is offering promotional programs for the Triton. Customers can enjoy a 50% discount on registration fees, ranging from VND 32 million to VND 45 million depending on the version, along with one year of physical insurance. The 4×2 AT MIVEC version also comes with a complimentary rearview camera.
According to plans, the new generation Mitsubishi Triton will be officially launched in Vietnam in September this year. Therefore, from now until September, Mitsubishi may continuously run promotional programs for the Triton to clear out existing inventory and make way for the new generation model.
The New Mitsubishi Triton
The Mitsubishi Triton in Vietnam is currently priced between VND 650 million and VND 905 million. It is equipped with a 2.4L MIVEC DI-D Hi-Power diesel engine that produces a maximum output of 181 horsepower and a peak torque of 430 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
Isuzu D-Max: 30 units
Following the general trend of the market, the Isuzu D-Max also experienced a sales decline in April. With 30 units sold, the model saw a 36.1% decrease in sales and ranked third in the pickup truck segment.
Isuzu D-Max
Compared to the two competitors mentioned above, the Isuzu D-Max offers a more affordable price range, starting from VND 665 million to VND 880 million for three versions. While it may be more budget-friendly, the Isuzu model still provides adequate convenience and safety features. However, its weakest point lies in its less appealing design.
The Isuzu D-Max is powered by a 1.9L 4-cylinder diesel engine that delivers a maximum output of 150 horsepower and a peak torque of 350 Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
Mazda BT-50: 0 units
The Mazda BT-50 did not record any sales in April 2024. This was the third month this year that the model had zero sales.
Mazda BT-50
At the beginning of May 2024, the BT-50 disappeared from Mazda’s product catalog in Vietnam. The distributor, THACO, has not provided a reason for this removal. Some speculate that the model has been discontinued in the Vietnamese market due to disappointing sales performance. Others hope that this is only a temporary absence while awaiting the launch of the new Mazda BT-50 version.
Prior to its discontinuation, the Mazda BT-50 was the most affordable pickup truck in Vietnam, with prices ranging from VND 554 million to VND 614 million for two versions. Unfortunately, its attractive price wasn’t enough to draw in customers, as the Japanese model was not well-received in terms of design. Additionally, the Mazda BT-50 shared the same engine as the Isuzu D-Max.
Toyota Hilux: 0 units
Similar to the Mazda BT-50, the Toyota Hilux also recorded zero sales in April 2024. So far this year, this pickup truck has not sold any units.
Not long ago, Toyota officially introduced the new Hilux model in Vietnam. The 2024 Toyota Hilux is offered in three versions: 2.4 4×4 MT, 2.4 4×2 AT, and 2.8 4×4 AT Adventure. The corresponding prices for these versions are VND 668 million, VND 706 million, and VND 999 million, respectively. Not only does the new Hilux offer more versions, but it also has a reduced starting price compared to the previous generation. This promises to improve the model’s sales performance.
Toyota Hilux 2024
The new Toyota Hilux features minor design adjustments to its exterior and additional equipment, such as a 9-inch central touchscreen display, support for Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, and a new dual-zone automatic climate control system.
The 2.8 4×4 AT Adventure version also includes advanced safety features such as a 360-degree camera, six sensors, a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), and a Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) system.
Under the hood, the Toyota Hilux offers two engine options that comply with Euro 5 emission standards. The first is a 2.4L 4-cylinder diesel engine that delivers a maximum output of 144 horsepower and a peak torque of 400 Nm. The second engine is a 2.8L 4-cylinder turbocharged unit that produces 201 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. These engines are paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, along with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, depending on the version.
