The Kia Carens, a compact MPV, was first introduced to the Indian market in February 2022. After a successful run, the Korean car has reached a sales milestone of 150,000 units in this vast market over a period of two years.

This is a significant achievement for the Kia Carens in India. It is currently the brand’s third best-selling model in the country, following the Sonet and Seltos.

Kia Carens

Kia Carens reaches a sales milestone of 150,000 units in India.

The appeal of this vehicle lies in its standout features within its segment, affordable pricing, and a range of engine options. Additionally, the Carens is offered in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations, catering to diverse customer needs.

In India, the Kia Carens is available in five trim levels: Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus. The mid-range and high-end variants are the most popular among buyers. The price range for this MPV in India currently stands at 1.052 – 1.967 million Rupees (approximately 322 – 602 thousand USD).

For this price, Indian customers are treated to a host of features, including a steering wheel with built-in paddle shifters, a digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, and the Kia Connect smart connectivity suite.

Under the hood, the Kia Carens in India offers three engine choices. The first is a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 115 horsepower and is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The second option is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine that generates 116 horsepower. This engine can be mated to either a 6-speed iMT (intelligent Manual Transmission) or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Lastly, there’s a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers an impressive 160 horsepower. This engine is coupled with either a 7-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission) or a 6-speed iMT.

Kia is currently working on an electric version of the Carens, with plans to launch the Kia Carens EV in India next year.

In Vietnam, the Kia Carens is also locally assembled and officially distributed, with 8 variants available and priced between 589 and 859 million VND. However, its sales performance in Vietnam has not been as impressive. In the first four months of this year, only 1,186 units of the Carens were sold, falling behind its sibling, the Carnival, despite its lower price tag.

The relatively high price compared to competitors and the absence of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are considered factors contributing to the lower sales figures for the Kia Carens in Vietnam.
