The Ultimate Showdown: Kia and Mazda Slash Prices on their C and D-Segment SUVs

The official websites of automotive giants Kia and Mazda are offering enticing promotions on their popular SUV models for the month of April.

Kia Sportage and Sorento: Savings of up to 30 million VND

Kia Vietnam has announced price adjustments for two of its SUV models, the Kia Sportage and the Kia Sorento, to stimulate customer demand. This is the second round of price adjustments implemented by the South Korean automaker this year.

Earlier in January, the Sorento, Sportage, Seltos, and Carens also received significant discounts of up to tens of millions of VND. Excluding the Sportage 2.0D Signature and 2.0D Signature (X-Line) models, which maintained their original prices, most other variants received reductions ranging from 20 to 30 million VND.

The 2.0G Premium version offers the highest discount of 30 million VND, bringing its listed price down to 799 million VND. Other gasoline-powered models also received a 20 million VND discount. With these promotions, the SUV’s starting price is now as low as 779 million VND, down from 799 million VND.

With this price adjustment, the Kia Sportage becomes the third most affordable vehicle in the C-segment SUV category when compared to competitors such as the Ford Territory (799-929 million VND), Hyundai Tucson (starting at 769 million VND), and the Mazda CX-5 (starting at 759 million VND).

Kia has also reduced the price of the Sorento by 15 million VND across all gasoline and diesel versions for the month of April. After applying these discounts, the SUV’s listed price ranges from 964 million to 1.184 billion VND, depending on the chosen variant.

When compared to its rivals in the same segment, the Kia Sorento is more affordable than the Hyundai Santa Fe and Ford Everest, but it still carries a higher price tag than the Mazda CX-8.

With this price adjustment, the Kia Sorento is likely to surpass the Toyota Fortuner in sales, becoming the fourth best-selling model in its segment. In the latest sales report for February, the Kia Sorento recorded 33 units sold, placing it among the slowest-selling vehicles in its category.

Mazda CX-5 and CX-8: Discounts starting from 10 million VND

Following a similar strategy, Mazda is also offering promotions on its C-segment and D-segment SUVs to compete with their segment rivals. Specifically, the Mazda CX-5 is discounted by 10 to 20 million VND, depending on the variant. The 2.0L engine models receive a 10 million VND discount, while the 2.5L engine versions are reduced by 20 million VND.

After applying these promotions, the Mazda CX-5 will have a starting price of 749 million VND, matching its original listed price when it was first introduced. The Mazda CX-5 also boasts the lowest price in its segment when compared to competitors such as the Ford Territory (799-929 million VND), Honda CR-V (starting at 1.109 billion VND), and Hyundai Tucson (starting at 769 million VND).

With its competitive pricing, advanced features, and technology that surpasses its price point, it’s no surprise that the Mazda CX-5 consistently leads the sales charts in its segment. In February, the Mazda CX-5 accounted for nearly 45% of the total sales volume in its group.

Its bigger sibling, the CX-8, also receives a price reduction from the Japanese automaker. Specifically, the CX-8 2.5 Luxury is now priced at 939 million VND, a reduction of 10 million VND from its original price. The top-of-the-line 2.5 Premium AWD version is now offered at 1.119 billion VND.

While the discount on the CX-8 is not as significant as some of its competitors, it still provides an advantage when compared to models such as the Kia Sorento (starting at 949 million VND) or the Hyundai Santa Fe (starting at 1.029 billion VND).
