According to the latest report from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first half of April, Vietnam recorded a total of 6,504 completely built-up (CBU) automobiles with a total import turnover of nearly 127 million USD. Among these, cars with 9 seats or less still accounted for the majority, with a total of 5,110 units and an import turnover of nearly 76 million USD.

Thus, the import of CBU cars into Vietnam has witnessed a slight growth in the first reporting period of April. Previously, in the second half of March, the General Department of Customs announced that Vietnam had imported 6,491 CBU cars of all kinds, with a total import turnover of nearly 151 million USD.

Although not a breakthrough, the import volume of CBU cars in the recent period in Vietnam has shown relatively positive recovery signals. At the beginning of the year, the General Department of Customs reported that in the first half of January, only 1,053 CBU cars completed customs procedures to enter Vietnam, with a total import turnover of more than 39 million USD.

The import of automobiles in Vietnam has experienced fluctuations in the following reporting periods, before reaching its peak in the first reporting period of March. According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in the period from March 1 to March 15, a total of 9,371 CBU cars of all kinds were imported into Vietnam, with a total import turnover of more than 179 million USD.

The growth in the number of imported cars in Vietnam almost coincided with the recovery period of the Vietnamese car market. According to a report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), in March, the entire Vietnamese car market recorded a total of 27,289 cars of all kinds, equivalent to a growth rate of 135% compared to the figures achieved in the previous reporting period.

The sales of domestically assembled cars in March reached 14,474 units, up 117% compared to the sales recorded in the previous month. The number of imported cars reaching Vietnamese customers in the past month also grew by 158%, achieving sales of 12,815 units.

After the first three months of the year, Ford Ranger is the best-selling model in the entire market with cumulative sales of 3,562 units. Of these, 434 units of the Ranger Raptor were imported from Thailand, along with 3,128 other versions assembled by the US car manufacturer in its factory in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the model that is temporarily the second best-selling in the market is Mitsubishi Xpander, which recorded a majority of sales from imported cars. Specifically, out of a total of 3,508 Xpander cars sold to Vietnamese customers in the first quarter, up to 3,197 units were imported from Indonesia, accounting for more than 91%.
