D-segment Sedan Sales Table for May 2024 (units: vehicles)

Toyota Camry: 107 units sold

It’s no exaggeration to say that the Toyota Camry carries the D-segment sedan market. In May, Toyota sold 107 Camry units in Vietnam, a decrease of 19.5% compared to the previous month. However, the Toyota model remains the best-selling vehicle in its segment. It is also the only D-segment sedan with sales exceeding 100 units. In fact, the combined sales of the other three models in the table do not surpass the Toyota Camry’s performance.

Toyota Camry

In Vietnam, the Toyota Camry is currently offered in four trim levels, with prices ranging from VND 1.105 billion to VND 1.495 billion. Despite being significantly more expensive than its competitors, the Mazda6 and Kia K5, the Camry remains the first choice for many Vietnamese consumers when it comes to D-segment sedans. This is due to its attractive design, spacious and well-equipped interior, and the trusted Toyota brand.

The Toyota Camry in Vietnam is available with three engine options. The first is a 2.0L gasoline engine that delivers 170 horsepower and 206 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT transmission. The second option is a more powerful 2.5L gasoline engine that produces 207 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Lastly, there is a hybrid powertrain that combines a gasoline engine, an electric motor, and a CVT transmission, resulting in a total output of 264 horsepower.

Additionally, the Camry is equipped with advanced safety features such as lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, smart headlights, eight sensors, and a 360-degree camera system.

Mazda6: 78 units sold

In contrast to its domestic rival, the Mazda6 experienced significant growth in May 2024. With 78 units sold, the Mazda6 achieved a remarkable 143.7% growth rate compared to the previous month. This strong performance allowed it to maintain its position as the second best-selling model in the D-segment sedan market.

Mazda6

The Mazda6 is currently the most affordable D-segment sedan in Vietnam, with prices ranging from VND 779 million to VND 914 million. In addition to its competitive pricing, the Mazda6 also offers a visually appealing exterior, a well-equipped interior, and a comprehensive suite of safety features.

Notable safety features of the Mazda6 include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive LED headlights, lane departure warning, radar-integrated cruise control, collision warning, smart brake support, lane-keeping assist, driver attention alert, and smart brake support (SBS).

Under the hood, the Mazda6 offers two engine options. The first is a 2.0L SkyActiv-G gasoline engine that produces 154 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. The second option is a more powerful 2.5L SkyActiv-G gasoline engine that delivers 188 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Kia K5: 20 units sold

Similar to the Mazda6, the Kia K5 also witnessed an increase in sales compared to April 2024. With 20 units sold, the Kia K5 achieved a growth rate of 17.6%. However, this sales figure is still relatively modest, and the Kia K5 continues to be one of the lowest-selling vehicles in Vietnam. This is the third consecutive month that the Korean model has appeared on this list.

Kia K5

The Kia K5 offers a competitive price range of VND 859 million to VND 999 million. It also boasts a youthful and sporty design, a well-equipped interior, and a comprehensive list of convenience features.

When purchasing the Kia K5, customers in Vietnam can expect features such as LED lighting, power-adjustable driver and passenger seats with memory function, a head-up display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Bose sound system with 12 speakers, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, remote engine start, and wireless phone charging.

The Kia K5 is offered with two gasoline engine options. The first is a 2.0L Nu MPI engine that generates 150 horsepower and 192 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second option is a more powerful 2.5L Theta-III GDi engine that produces 191 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Honda Accord: 4 units sold

The Honda Accord continues to hold the last position in the D-segment sedan market, with only four units sold in May 2024, representing a 20% decrease in sales.

Honda Accord

During May 2024, Honda offered a substantial cash incentive of up to VND 220 million for the Accord. However, this promotional effort did not significantly enhance the model’s appeal. For June 2024, Honda is continuing the same incentive program for the Accord.

The Honda Accord faces challenges due to its high price of VND 1.319 billion for the sole available trim level. This, coupled with limited trim options, causes its strengths, such as spacious interior and highly-regarded driving dynamics within the segment, to be overshadowed.

The Honda Accord is equipped with a turbocharged 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 188 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and offers two driving modes: Eco and Sport. Additionally, the Accord comes with safety features such as collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, automatic high-beam headlights, road departure mitigation, and lane-keeping assist.
