According to Mr. Bradley Kelly, the outgoing General Director of Mercedes-Benz Vietnam, the three-pointed star brand is preparing to sell plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles in the country in the near future. The first two PHEV models to be introduced in Vietnam will be the Mercedes-Benz C350e and S580e.
Both of the aforementioned vehicles have been brought to Vietnam for testing. Prior to this, in February 2024, Mercedes-Benz also completed energy consumption testing for both models.
Specific information about the equipment of the Mercedes-Benz C350e and S580e in Vietnam remains confidential. However, according to information from the Registry Office, the Mercedes-Benz C350e in Vietnam will be equipped with a PHEV powertrain including a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine, producing a maximum output of 201 horsepower and maximum torque of 320 Nm. The engine is paired with an electric motor that generates 127 horsepower and 440 Nm, along with a 9-speed automatic transmission. In total, the Mercedes-Benz C350e has a maximum output of 308 horsepower and maximum torque of 550 Nm.
In addition, the lithium-ion battery pack has a capacity of 25.4 kWh, allowing the car to travel up to 117 kilometers without using the gasoline engine. As a result, the car has an average fuel consumption of just 1.5 liters per 100 kilometers.
On the other hand, the Mercedes-Benz S580e uses a PHEV powertrain with an inline 6-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, displacing 3.0L, an electric motor, and a 9-speed automatic transmission. The gasoline engine produces a maximum output of 362 horsepower and maximum torque of 500 Nm. The respective figures for the electric motor are 150 horsepower and 440 Nm. When combined, the engine and electric motor deliver 510 horsepower and 750 Nm to the vehicle.
The Mercedes-Benz S580e is equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of 28.6 kWh. Similar to the C350e, this large luxury sedan also consumes just 1.5 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers.
With an 11 kW charger, the charging time for the Mercedes-Benz C350e is approximately 2 hours. The corresponding figure for the Mercedes-Benz S580e ranges from about 2 to 2.5 hours.
The Mercedes-Benz S580e is also set to be launched in Vietnam.
Thus, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class luxury line in Vietnam is about to have 4 versions, in addition to the C 200 Avantgarde, C 200 Avantgarde Plus, and C 300 AMG currently on sale. The price of the C-Class in Vietnam currently ranges from 1.389 to 2.179 billion VND.
Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class in Vietnam currently has only one version, the S450 4Matic, priced at 5.039 billion VND. The introduction of the S580e will provide customers with more options when looking for a large luxury sedan.
In the past, the Mercedes-Benz brand has introduced a total of 4 electric car models in the Vietnamese market, including the EQB, EQE SUV, EQS, and EQS SUV. Although not announced, the sales of these electric car models are predicted to be not too high. This is probably one of the reasons why Mercedes-Benz has changed its strategy and decided to distribute PHEV vehicles in Vietnam.
