This week, Honda announced a recall of over 14,000 vehicles in Vietnam to ensure optimal product quality. The Japanese automaker attributed this recall to a potential issue with the fuel pump, which may deform during operation, leading to pump failure and unexpected engine shutdown while driving.

This recall affects both domestically assembled and imported Honda vehicles manufactured between 2017 and 2018, including the Honda Jazz, Civic, CR-V, Accord, and City. Honda Vietnam also identified 68 other vehicles, including one Odyssey, that require recall despite being produced outside the aforementioned period. These vehicles had a history of fuel pump replacement between June 27, 2017, and July 11, 2023.

Model Production Period Quantity
Honda Jazz December 14, 2017 – June 5, 2018 1,290
Honda Civic December 7, 2017 – June 29, 2018 1,560
Honda CR-V December 1, 2017 – June 28, 2018 4,470
Honda Accord January 4, 2018 – June 4, 2018 240
Honda City September 15, 2017 – January 8, 2019 6,602

In their statement, Honda confirmed that no safety issues related to the fuel pump defect have been reported in Vietnam. Nevertheless, they advised customers to bring their vehicles to authorized dealers for inspection and fuel pump replacement if necessary. Honda Vietnam will bear the costs associated with these repairs.

Earlier this year, Reuters reported that Honda had recalled approximately 4.5 million vehicles worldwide due to faulty fuel pumps. In the United States alone, this recall affected about 2.54 million Honda cars.

The global recall included models such as the Accord, Civic, CR-V, HR-V, Insight, Ridgeline, Odyssey, and Passport, as well as several Acura models produced between 2018 and 2020. While no injuries were reported, Honda USA received 4,042 warranty claims related to this issue since 2018.
