The BYD Song L DM-i is a compact SUV that will feature BYD’s latest DM-i 5.0 PHEV platform, offering an impressive 2,100 km range. With sales expected to commence in the latter half of the year, the Song L DM-i is poised to make a significant impact on the market, boasting a starting price of approximately 120,000 RMB (16,500 USD).

Recently spotted in the wild, the compact SUV from Chinese automaker BYD boasts the company’s latest design language, highlighted by its DM-i 5.0 PHEV platform that delivers a remarkable 2,100 km range. The official launch date for the BYD Song L remains undisclosed.
The mid-size SUV, BYD Song L DM-i, stands out with its distinctive black “dragon mouth” grille, sleek LED lights, trapezoidal air intakes, wheel arches accented with plastic cladding, retractable door handles, and blacked-out rear windows. At the rear, unique taillights, a roof spoiler, and an independent suspension system complete the look.
With dimensions of 4,780 mm in length, 1,898 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,782 mm, the BYD Song L DM-i is slightly larger than the Song Plus. It rides on 18-inch wheels wrapped in 225/60 tires or optional 19-inch wheels with 235/50 tires, and its curb weight ranges from 1,930 to 2,000 kg.
Leaked interior shots of the BYD Song L DM-i reveal similarities to the Qin L DM-i, featuring a fully digital dashboard and a floating-style 15.6-inch central control screen. Inside, its 2+3 seat layout suggests it could potentially replace the current Song Plus.
The SUV sports a 4-spoke steering wheel, a signature design element of the Dynasty family. Additional features include a wireless smartphone charging pad with a maximum charging power of 15 watts and bright-colored leather-upholstered sports seats, adding a touch of luxury to the BYD Song L DM-i’s interior.
Under the hood, the Song L DM-i will be powered by a plug-in hybrid system, combining a 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor to produce 99 hp and 215 hp, respectively. The combined fuel and electric range is expected to exceed 2,000 km, while fuel efficiency is an impressive 2.9 L/100 km.
The rear suspension features a unique four-link independent design, promising improved shock absorption and dynamic performance. Built on the DM-i 5.0 PHEV platform, the new BYD Song L DM-i is expected to deliver a smoother ride compared to its BEV counterpart.
