The 10 Least Popular Car Models in Vietnam in the First Half of 2024.

The Mazda BT-50 holds the title of the least sold vehicle in Vietnam during the first six months of 2024, with only 5 units sold. In May 2024, this pickup truck quietly disappeared from Mazda Vietnam’s product portfolio, and the reasons for its absence remain unclear. Some speculate that it has been discontinued due to underwhelming sales, while others hope that it will make a comeback with a new version.

Following the BT-50 is the Honda Civic Type R, a special order model with a limited audience, reflected in its sales of 7 units. With a price tag of 2.399 billion VND, it caters to a niche market.

The Suzuki Ciaz takes third place, with just 8 units sold so far this year. Suzuki Vietnam has confirmed that they discontinued importing the Ciaz as of May 2024, and dealers are clearing out their remaining stock. Alongside the Ertiga Hybrid, the Ciaz will be phased out of the Vietnamese market.

Sharing the same fate as the Ciaz is the Toyota Yaris, with exactly 8 units sold in the first half. The Yaris Cross, introduced in September 2023, has taken its place in the market. The Honda Accord, a familiar name in the monthly lowest sales charts, ranks next with 48 units sold. Despite consistent cash incentives of up to 220 million VND, the Accord’s sales remain lackluster.

Honda Accord continues to struggle despite significant discounts.

The Toyota Alphard, with a total of 56 units sold in the first half, faces similar challenges to the Honda Civic Type R. With a starting price of 4.37 billion VND, it caters to a small, exclusive audience. The Isuzu mu-X and D-Max, both known for their unappealing designs, make an expected appearance in the top 10 least popular cars. While the mu-X sold 85 units, the D-Max managed 170 sales.

The Kia K5, with 132 units sold, is another sedan in the top 10, indicating a downward trend for this segment in Vietnam. Rounding out the list is the Suzuki Jimny, with 158 units sold. Introduced in March 2024, the Jimny is imported in limited quantities and has a high starting price of 789 million VND. Its small size and modest features in terms of convenience and safety have contributed to its low sales.
