The Mazda CX-50 is a popular SUV that first debuted in the US market in 2021. Fast forward three years, and Mazda has unveiled an upgraded version of this beloved vehicle.

The most notable change in the 2025 Mazda CX-50 for the US market is its engine. The SUV now features a new hybrid powertrain manufactured by Toyota. This powertrain was also introduced in the Mazda CX-50 for the Chinese market earlier this year.

The 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid is here, powered by a Toyota engine.

Specifically, the 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid utilizes the same hybrid powertrain as the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. This system combines a 2.5L naturally aspirated inline-four gasoline engine with three electric motors, a hybrid battery, and an e-CVT transmission.

Two of the electric motors in the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid are located on the front axle. One of these motors functions as a generator, while the other provides motive power to the front axle. The third motor is situated on the rear axle, enabling the SUV to have an all-wheel-drive capability.

Together, the 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid delivers a maximum output of 219 horsepower and 221 Nm of torque. Impressively, this SUV achieves a fuel economy of 6.2 liters per 100 kilometers, a 40% improvement over the standard gasoline-powered version.

In terms of design, the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid 2025 doesn’t stray far from its gasoline-powered counterpart. It features an improved front bumper and unique 17-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels. The interior boasts red leather seats, exclusively available in the Hybrid model.

Apart from the new hybrid powertrain, the 2025 Mazda CX-50 continues to offer two gasoline engine options. The first is a 2.5L naturally aspirated inline-four engine that produces 187 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque. The second is a 2.5L turbocharged inline-four engine that generates an impressive 250 horsepower and 434 Nm of torque.

Both gasoline engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. Additionally, the CX-50 features a new Mi-Drive system, which allows drivers to choose from three driving modes: Normal, Sport, and Off-Road.
