According to the latest report from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, from May 1st to 15th, a total of 6,952 completely built-up (CBU) automobiles were imported, with a value of nearly 152 million USD. This shows a significant growth compared to the import volume of 5,066 units recorded in the second half of April and an increase of 448 units compared to the total import volume from April 1st to April 15th.
During the first half of May, cars with 9 seats or less still accounted for the largest proportion of imported CBU automobiles. From May 1st to 15th, 5,483 cars with 9 seats or fewer completed customs procedures, with a value of nearly 95 million USD, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

From the beginning of the year until now, a total of 50,744 CBU automobiles have been imported into Vietnam, with a total value of over 1.08 billion USD, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs. Of this number, cars with 9 seats or less account for nearly 81% with 40,909 units, valued at approximately 703 million USD.
After the first four months of the year, Indonesia remains the largest supplier of imported cars to the Vietnamese market, with 19,900 cars completing customs procedures and a total value of nearly 287 million USD. Thailand ranked second with 13,406 CBU cars imported into Vietnam during the same period, valued at more than 266 million USD.
There has been a significant increase in the import of cars from China compared to the same period last year. The report from the General Department of Vietnam Customs showed that there were 8,848 CBU cars imported from China in the first four months of this year, while the figure was only 3,593 units in the same period last year.

In terms of sales, the report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) showed that up to April, the consumption of imported cars in the Vietnamese market reached 39,613 units, a decrease of 3% compared to the same period last year.
Thus, there is not much difference in sales between imported and domestically assembled cars, as the cumulative sales of domestic cars from the beginning of the year reached 42,902 units, a decrease of 17% over the same period last year.
After four months, the Ford Ranger is the best-selling car model in Vietnam, with sales of 4,824 units. This includes 706 imported units of the Raptor and Stormtrak versions, along with 4,118 units of other Ranger versions produced in Vietnam.
The Mitsubishi Xpander is the second best-selling name in Vietnam, with sales of 4,771 units since the beginning of the year. Unlike the Ranger, Xpander’s sales mainly come from imported cars, with a total of 4,307 units, accounting for more than 90%.
