The MG brand officially unveiled the new generation of the HS line at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, showcasing a range of upgrades for the European market. The new model features a sharper exterior design, a more spacious interior, and a new, fuel-efficient engine.
While MG has not directly confirmed it, the new HS is clearly based on the Roewe RX5 third-generation model sold in China. The MG RX5, currently available in the Vietnamese market, also shares its roots with the Roewe RX5. Both the MG and Roewe brands are owned by the SAIC Group.
The similarities between the MG HS 2025 and the Roewe RX5 are evident in the vehicle’s body design. Even the lighting system and wheel design of this C-segment SUV are borrowed from the Roewe RX5. However, MG has added a sportier-looking grille and front bumper with air intakes to the HS to set it apart from its Roewe counterpart.

Under the hood, the MG HS 2025 offers two engine options. The first is a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 168 horsepower and 275 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, sending power to the front wheels.
The second option is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, combining a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an output of 141 horsepower and a potent 207-horsepower electric motor. This setup enables the HS 2025 to sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with a 24.7 kWh battery that allows for an impressive 121 km of pure electric range. With this PHEV system, MG expects the HS to outperform competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V in terms of fuel efficiency.

In the UK market, the MG HS 2025 is priced from £24,995 (approximately $32,187) for the gasoline version and £31,495 (around $40,557) for the PHEV model. Deliveries to customers in the UK are expected to begin later this month.
