Is There a Free Charging Option for the VinFast Electric Taxi?

VinFast has just announced an exciting new policy: free charging for VinFast cars at V-GREEN stations until July 1st, 2025. This has sparked curiosity among drivers, who are now wondering if this includes electric VinFast taxis.

Vingroup Group has launched the campaign “Fierce Vietnamese Spirit – For a Green Future” to call on the whole community to join hands in developing the VinFast electric vehicle brand, contributing to the green transition. The following are notable support policies from VinGroup for VinFast electric vehicle users:

– From July 1, 2024, to July 1, 2026, VinFast electric cars will be offered free parking (under 5 hours) and priority parking at all VinGroup ecosystem locations.

– VinFast cars can also be charged for free at V-GREEN stations until July 1, 2025.

– Vinhomes residents who own VinFast electric cars will have exclusive free parking and charging privileges at Vinhomes parking lots for the next two years.

This has raised a significant concern among both individual and VinFast electric taxi drivers as to whether taxi vehicles are included in this program.

VinFast representative stated that the free charging offer would only apply to individual customers who own VinFast electric vehicles and would not extend to GSM taxi drivers or taxi companies using VinFast vehicles. This means that drivers from taxi companies such as Lado Taxi, Sun Taxi, and ASV Airports Taxi are not eligible for this benefit.

VinFast is currently the only electric vehicle manufacturer in Vietnam to invest in a dedicated charging station network nationwide. According to statistics, on 125 national and provincial highways and expressways, car owners can easily find charging stations with an average distance of 65 kilometers between stations. In urban areas, this distance is reduced to just 3.5 kilometers between each charging point. According to a reliable source, nearly 1,000 new VinFast charging stations are planned for installation in 2024 alone, further enhancing convenience for electric vehicle users.

As per their plan, VinFast aims to establish 3,000 charging stations with over 150,000 charging ports for electric cars and motorcycles across Vietnam. Currently, VinFast has many stations equipped with regular and fast chargers (7.4 kW, 11 kW, 30 kW, and 60 kW) located at apartment complexes, overnight parking lots, shopping malls, daytime parking lots, gas stations, and rest stops. They also have stations with super-fast DC chargers (150 kW and 300 kW) on select locations along expressways, national highways, and in major urban areas.

However, with the rapid growth of VinFast electric vehicles, especially electric taxis, which are in constant use and require frequent charging, there are concerns about potential overload issues at charging stations in major cities. Clearly, VinFast’s response has somewhat alleviated this worry by excluding taxi vehicles from the free charging offer.
