The D-segment sedan market in Vietnam is currently lackluster, with low sales figures. This was evident in June 2024, as the segment’s performance continued to be underwhelming. Out of the four models available, three of them were among the lowest-selling cars in the country.

D-Segment Sedan Sales for June 2024 (units)

Toyota Camry: 105 units sold

The Toyota Camry maintained its position as the best-selling D-segment sedan in June 2024, with 105 units sold. This represented a slight decrease of 1.8% compared to the previous month. It was also the only model in the segment to surpass a monthly sales figure of 100 units.

Toyota Camry

In the first six months of 2024, the Toyota Camry achieved a total sales volume of 660 units, leading the segment. This performance highlights the general lack of enthusiasm among Vietnamese customers for the Toyota Camry and the D-segment sedan category as a whole. The shift in consumer preferences towards higher-riding vehicles has contributed to this situation.

The Toyota Camry is currently offered in Vietnam with four trim levels, ranging in price from 1.105 billion to 1.495 billion VND. True to its value proposition, the Toyota sedan impresses with its elegant design, spacious interior, and comprehensive convenience and safety features.

In terms of safety, the D-segment sedan is equipped with lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, smart headlights, eight sensors, and a 360-degree camera. Furthermore, it offers three engine options to cater to diverse customer needs.

The first is a 2.0L gasoline engine that delivers 170 horsepower and 206 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT transmission. The second option is a more powerful 2.5L gasoline engine that generates 207 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Lastly, there is a hybrid powertrain that combines a gasoline engine, an electric motor, and a CVT transmission to produce a total output of 264 horsepower.

Mazda6: 21 units sold

The Mazda6 experienced the most significant decline in sales within the D-segment sedan category in June, with only 21 units sold. This represented a substantial decrease of 73% compared to the previous month. As a result, the Mazda6 shared the second position in the segment with its rival, the Kia K5.

Mazda6

The Mazda6 is currently the most affordable D-segment sedan in Vietnam, with a price range of 779 million to 914 million VND. However, this competitive pricing has not been enough to boost its sales performance in the Vietnamese market.

Beyond its attractive price point, the Mazda6 boasts a sleek exterior design and a comprehensive suite of convenience and safety features. It is equipped with a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive LED headlights, lane departure warning, radar-integrated cruise control, collision warning, smart brake support for the front and rear, lane-keeping assist, driver attention alert, and more.

Under the hood, the Mazda6 offers two engine options. The first is a 2.0L SkyActiv-G gasoline engine that produces 154 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. The second option is a more powerful 2.5L SkyActiv-G gasoline engine that generates 188 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Kia K5: 21 units sold

Similar to the Mazda6, the Kia K5 recorded modest sales of 21 units in June 2024. However, this represented a slight increase of 5% compared to the previous month. Despite this, the Korean sedan’s low sales volume placed it among the top 10 lowest-selling cars in the country for June 2024, marking the fourth consecutive month that the Kia K5 has appeared on this list.

Kia K5

The Kia K5 offers a competitive pricing strategy, with a price range of 859 million to 999 million VND. It also appeals to buyers with its youthful and sporty design, along with a generous set of convenience and safety features.

Notable features of the Kia K5 include LED lighting, power-adjustable driver and passenger seats with memory function, a head-up display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Bose sound system with 12 speakers, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, remote engine start, and wireless phone charging.

In terms of powertrain options, the Kia K5 offers a choice between two engines. The first is a 2.0L Nu MPI engine that produces 150 horsepower and 192 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second option is a more powerful 2.5L Theta-III GDi engine that generates 191 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Honda Accord: 8 units sold

The Honda Accord stood out as the D-segment sedan with the highest growth rate in June 2024, achieving a 100% increase in sales to reach 8 units. However, due to its consistently low sales volume, the Honda Accord remained at the bottom of the segment. Additionally, it secured a place among the top 10 lowest-selling cars in the country for both June 2024 and the first half of the year.

Honda Accord

For July 2024, Honda is offering a cash incentive of up to 220 million VND for the Accord. This is the fourth consecutive month that the brand has provided this level of discount for the model.

The Honda Accord is available in Vietnam with a single trim level, starting at a substantial price of 1.319 billion VND. This, coupled with the overall sluggishness of the segment, has contributed to the model’s consistently low sales performance.

However, the Honda Accord makes up for this with its spacious interior and highly-regarded driving dynamics within the segment. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 188 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and offers two driving modes: Eco and Sport.

In terms of safety, the Honda Accord is equipped with collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, automatic high-beam headlights, road departure mitigation, and lane-keeping assist.
