Vietnamese businessman and car enthusiast, Pham Tran Nhat Minh, commonly known as Minh “Nhua,” has once again grabbed the attention of the local community and media. This time, it’s with his recent acquisition of the million-dollar supercar, the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4.
The impending arrival of yet another hypercar in Vietnam signals that the trend of owning supercars with price tags exceeding a million dollars straight from the factory is no longer out of reach for the country’s enthusiasts. However, a closer look reveals that the same familiar faces are dominating this exclusive club.
Rewind 12 years, and the sight of the Bugatti Veyron, the ultimate speed machine at the time, cruising through the streets of Binh Thanh district in Ho Chi Minh City left car enthusiasts in awe. No one expected such a high-value, record-breaking car to make an appearance in Vietnam.
Naturally, the identity of the owner sparked intense curiosity and speculation. Contrary to popular guesses, the car didn’t belong to either Cu Way or Cuong “Dollar,” the top players in the VIP car scene at the time. Instead, it was revealed that Minh “Nhua,” the young scion of the Long Thanh Plastic Company, was the proud owner of this extraordinary vehicle.
Since then, Minh “Nhua” has added two more hypercars to his collection: the Pagani Huayra and the McLaren Elva, the latter currently going through the necessary procedures to obtain a license plate. Additionally, he has expressed his intention to purchase the limited-edition Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4, with only 112 units available globally.
After acquiring the Pagani Huayra, Minh “Nhua” sold the Bugatti Veyron to a businessman named Vu, who currently owns nearly 700 cars with a total value of nearly VND 3,000 billion. Vu has a penchant for acquiring well-known supercars from other enthusiasts to add to his collection.
For instance, the Porsche 918 Spyder, the only one imported to Vietnam, was initially intended for a wealthy individual in Go Vap district. However, due to the lengthy process of obtaining a license plate and financial issues, the car was sold back to the importer, and Vu seized the opportunity to add it to his garage.
Vu’s passion for car collecting extends further, as evidenced by his purchase of several supercars from a real estate tycoon who sold off a significant portion of his collection. One of these acquisitions was the Ford GT ’67 Heritage Edition. Vu is undoubtedly one of the most prolific car collectors in Vietnam, with a mix of new purchases like the McLaren Senna and more standard models like the Ford GT.
Aside from Vu and Minh “Nhua,” two other notable enthusiasts of expensive cars are Hoang Kim Khanh and a businessman in the consumer goods industry. The latter owns a Porsche 918 Spyder with a Cambodian license plate bearing his initials. Meanwhile, Khanh is renowned for his megacar duo of the Koenigsegg Regera and the McLaren Senna.
Despite the growing number of hypercars, megacars, and supercars in Vietnam approaching double digits, the same small group of enthusiasts, including Minh “Nhua,” Vu, a low-key businessman, and Hoang Kim Khanh, continues to dominate the scene. These individuals often opt for license plates from neighboring Cambodia for their high-end rides.
There was a new entrant a few years ago, a businessman from Hai Phong who acquired a Koenigsegg CCX. However, three years later, there’s still no indication that the car will be registered in Vietnam. Additionally, there have been rumors of other “big spenders” planning to bring in supercars like the Ferrari LaFerrari and Koenigsegg Jesko, but these remain unconfirmed, with no sign of the cars actually arriving in the country.
