The Hyundai Accent and Honda City go head-to-head in the competitive B-segment sedan market in Vietnam. |
With a budget of VND 500-600 million, car buyers in Vietnam have a range of options within the B-segment sedan category, including the Toyota Vios, Honda City, Mazda2, and Hyundai Accent. The Honda City RS and Hyundai Accent 1.5 High are two popular choices for those seeking a fully-loaded B-sized sedan with a more powerful engine.
Honda City RS: Bold and Sporty, Hyundai Accent: Sleek and Sophisticated
Both the Honda City and Hyundai Accent boast dynamic and bold designs. However, the Honda City leans more towards a sporty and youthful aesthetic, while the 2024 Hyundai Accent strikes a balance between elegance and modern styling, thanks to the Korean automaker’s refined touches.
The Honda City RS appeals to younger buyers with features such as a black grille, fog lights, front and rear bumpers, side mirrors, a rear spoiler, and a new rear diffuser. Meanwhile, the new Hyundai Accent impresses with its low-set grille seamlessly integrated with LED lights and a sleek daytime running light strip that stretches across the width of the car.
The Accent’s new front design gives it a more modern and lightweight appearance compared to the City. Both sedans feature sculpted body lines and muscular fenders, while the Accent’s flashback-style rear end adds a touch of sportiness.

Length (mm) | 4,589 | 4,535 |
Width (mm) | 1,748 | 1,765 |
Height (mm) | 1,467 | 1,485 |
Wheelbase (mm) | 2,600 | 2,670 |
Ground Clearance (mm) | 134 | 165 |
In terms of dimensions, the Korean sedan falls slightly short in length but surpasses the City in width, height, and wheelbase. The longer wheelbase of the Accent 1.5 AT High also translates to a more spacious cabin for passengers.
Additionally, the Accent’s impressive ground clearance improvement makes it more versatile and capable of navigating diverse terrain.
Hyundai Accent’s Interior Takes the Lead
Step inside the Honda City RS, and you’ll find a refined cabin with a familiar 3-spoke steering wheel, premium leather upholstery, a 4.2-inch central instrument cluster, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The Hyundai Accent 1.5 AT High takes it up a notch with a modern setup that includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster seamlessly integrated with an 8-inch central touchscreen, a new 2-spoke steering wheel, and a stylish center console with touch-sensitive controls.
When it comes to features, the Accent 1.5 High gains an edge with a segment-exclusive cooling feature and a rear armrest with cup holders. The City RS counters with an upgraded 8-speaker audio system (compared to the Accent’s 6-speaker setup) and retains the sunroof, which has been omitted from the new Accent.
Both sedans offer similar convenience features, including Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, smart key entry, remote engine start, and more.
Honda City RS: More Powerful, Hyundai Accent: Packed with Safety Features
Under the hood, the Honda City RS is equipped with a 1.5L i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine, while the Hyundai Accent 2024 has been upgraded to the new SmartStream G 1.5L engine, replacing the previous 1.4L Kappa engine.
Despite the upgrade, the City RS maintains a slight power advantage with 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. The new Accent’s engine produces 113 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque.

The Honda City RS is known for its dynamic driving characteristics, delivering a confident and responsive experience. The Hyundai Accent 2024, on the other hand, is likely to continue the Korean brand’s tradition of light steering and a refined, fuel-efficient engine.
In terms of safety, the Honda City RS falls slightly short compared to the Accent 1.5 High, as it lacks rear parking sensors and lane-keeping assist, despite its higher price tag. Both sedans are equipped with 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and a rearview camera, among other standard features.
