C-segment sedan sales table for June 2024 (unit: cars).

Mazda3: 430 cars

Mazda3 was the model with the highest growth rate in the C-segment sedan category in June 2024. Accordingly, this model sold 430 cars, up to 40.9%. With this result, Mazda3 has regained the crown from its rival, Kia K3, after being defeated in the previous month. In the first 6 months of this year, Mazda3 reached 2,054 cars in sales, continuing to be the “king” of the C-segment sedan category.

Mazda3

The Mazda3 Sedan in Vietnam currently has 4 versions, and its price ranges from VND 579 million to VND 739 million. With this price, the Mazda car is one of the most affordable C-segment sedans in the market, second only to the MG5.

Apart from its competitive price, the Mazda3 also boasts other advantages such as sleek and eye-catching design, as well as comprehensive convenience and safety features. Notable equipment of this model includes an LED lighting system, 18-inch alloy wheels, power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, an 8.8-inch central touchscreen, an 8-speaker audio system, a sporty steering wheel with paddle shifters, a head-up display (HUD), an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, automatic dual-zone climate control, and auto-dimming rearview mirrors.

The Mazda3 is powered by a 1.5L SkyActiv-G 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 110 hp and 146 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and an advanced GVC Plus acceleration control system.

Kia K3: 372 cars

Similar to its rival, the Kia K3 also experienced a successful June with an 18% sales growth to 372 cars. However, due to the stronger performance of the Mazda3, the Kia K3 slipped to the second position in the segment for both June 2024 and the first half of the year.

Kia K3

Pricing is one of the biggest strengths of the Kia K3 in the Vietnamese market. Accordingly, this Korean model offers 5 versions with prices ranging from VND 549 million to VND 714 million.

Compared to the Mazda3, the Kia K3 has the advantage of offering a diverse range of engine options. It comes with three different engines: a 1.6L gasoline engine, a 2.0L gasoline engine, and a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine. These engines deliver power outputs of 126 hp/155 Nm, 150 hp/192 Nm, and 201 hp/265 Nm, respectively. The engines are mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission, a 6-speed automatic transmission, or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

In terms of convenience features, the Kia K3 is not far behind its competitors in the same segment. However, this model lacks advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) features.

Honda Civic: 130 cars

June 2024 witnessed the rise of the Honda Civic as it ranked third in the segment in terms of sales, surpassing the Hyundai Elantra, despite a 31.9% decrease in sales to 130 cars. Considering the year-to-date sales, the Honda Civic still trails the Hyundai Elantra.

Honda Civic

The reason for the decline in Honda Civic sales last June may be attributed to the discontinuation of official promotional programs for the model. This month, the car continues to lack promotional programs from the manufacturer.

The Honda Civic is currently the most expensive C-segment sedan in Vietnam, with prices ranging from VND 730 million to VND 870 million for its 3 versions. While it doesn’t have a pricing advantage, the car boasts attractive design, rich equipment, powerful performance, and highly-acclaimed driving dynamics.

The car is equipped with leather seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch central touchscreen, wireless charging, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. It also features advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) as part of the Honda Sensing package.

The Japanese model is powered by a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 178 hp and 240 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive.

Hyundai Elantra: 102 cars

In June 2024, the Hyundai brand sold only 102 Elantra units in Vietnam, a decrease of 52.1%. With this result, the Hyundai Elantra dropped to the fourth position in the segment, behind the Honda Civic.

Hyundai Elantra

It seems that the new prices that took effect from June 18, 2024, have not significantly improved the sales performance of this C-segment sedan. The Hyundai Elantra currently offers 3 versions with prices ranging from VND 579 million to VND 769 million.

Similar to the Kia K3, the Hyundai Elantra also provides 3 engine options: the Gamma II 1.6L gasoline engine, the Nu 2.0L gasoline engine, and the 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine. The power outputs of these engines range from 128 hp to 204 hp and 155 Nm to 265 Nm.

Additionally, the car features LED headlights, hands-free power trunk, automatic windshield wipers, a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, leather seats with 10-way power adjustments, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, and a 6-speaker audio system.

Toyota Corolla Altis: 15 cars

The Toyota Corolla Altis remained the lowest-selling model in the C-segment sedan category in June 2024, with only 15 cars sold, a decrease of 57.1%. This result also made the Toyota Corolla Altis one of the 10 worst-selling cars in the market last month.

Toyota Corolla Altis

The Toyota Corolla Altis received a minor upgrade in October 2023, with prices ranging from VND 725 million to VND 870 million. The new version added features such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, auto-dimming mirrors with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera system.

The Toyota Corolla Altis is currently the only model in the C-segment sedan category to offer a hybrid powertrain. It is equipped with a hybrid system combining a 1.8L gasoline engine and an electric motor, delivering a total output of 122 hp. Alternatively, it can be powered by a 1.8L 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 138 hp and 172 Nm of torque. Both options are paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive.
