**Ferrari Destroys Over 400,000 Counterfeit Items in 2023, Including 3 Fake Supercars and 800 Scooters**
In a recent announcement, Ferrari revealed that they had to destroy over 400,000 counterfeit products bearing the Italian supercar brand’s name in 2023 alone. This bold move by Ferrari is a strong statement against the rampant issue of counterfeiting and IP infringement.
Among the destroyed items were three fake supercars and approximately 800 scooters illegally bearing the Ferrari logo. In addition, a wide range of fashion and luxury items were also among the counterfeit goods, including 30,000 bottles of perfume, 17,000 bags, 17,000 pairs of shoes, 13,000 belts, 100,000 clothing items, 91,000 pairs of sunglasses, 61,000 watches, and 57,000 wallets. The brand also destroyed 872 model cars and 1,092 balls bearing the iconic “Prancing Horse” logo.
Ferrari has been actively campaigning against counterfeiting, encouraging people to report businesses selling fake Ferrari merchandise. Informants are asked to provide detailed information, including the business name, the number of counterfeit items, and clear images displaying the Ferrari logo. If the information is accurate and valuable, the informant is rewarded.
However, the brand primarily focuses on commercially sold counterfeit goods, meaning that self-made items for personal use are generally safe from Ferrari’s crackdown. This distinction is important to the brand as it strives to protect its reputation and the exclusivity of its products.
By safeguarding its brand value, Ferrari ensures that its vehicles remain unique and desirable. This strategy has proven successful, with Ferrari selling 13,663 cars globally in 2023, a 3.3% increase from 2022. The company’s revenue reached €5.97 billion, a 17% increase, with an impressive operating profit of €1.61 billion and a 27% operating margin, triple the global average.
