Mitsubishi is reportedly considering reviving the Pajero in 2027, repositioning it as a premium offering to compete with the likes of Range Rover.

Rumors of a potential Mitsubishi Pajero comeback in 2027 have been circulating in Japan since the beginning of the year, according to Carscoops. Domestic sources suggest that the new generation Pajero will be reintroduced as a premium plug-in hybrid SUV, sharing the same platform as the Outlander. As a result, artists at Carscoops have predicted the design of the 2027 Pajero with the sketch below.

The 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero is expected to draw inspiration from the Outlander for its front end design. The vehicle’s proportions will also change, featuring a higher ride height and a steeper, more off-road-oriented roofline for a stronger, sportier look.

Thin LED daytime running lights are positioned above the main vertical headlight clusters. The front bumper is designed to enhance the approach angle for off-road capabilities. From the side profile, the Pajero looks dynamic with blacked-out pillars, flared wheel arches, and a modern, stylish appearance. The rear features a distinctive T-shaped taillight design, a split tailgate, and an independently opening rear window for convenient access to the cargo area.

Given the positive impression made by the high-spec interior of the current Mitsubishi Outlander, the 2027 Pajero is also likely to receive an interior upgrade. According to Carscoops’ interpretation, the Pajero will combine a robust exterior with luxurious appointments and advanced technology. This includes a leather-wrapped dashboard, vertical air vents, and a low-mounted touchscreen infotainment system for improved aesthetics.

The 2027 Pajero will offer more spacious interiors than the Outlander, providing increased comfort for third-row passengers and expanded luggage capacity. It will also feature wireless connectivity, AI voice integration, over-the-air updates, and a comprehensive suite of technology and driver-assistance features.

Japanese media predicts that the Pajero will be built on an updated CMF-C/D platform, paired with Mitsubishi Outlander’s 2.4L hybrid powertrain. However, the overall output is expected to be significantly higher, with two electric motors at the rear and one at the front, resulting in a projected combined output of over 382 horsepower.

This setup not only offers a balance between performance and fuel efficiency but also delivers instant torque and improved off-road capabilities. Electronic front and rear differentials will further enhance the vehicle’s performance.

With its repositioning as a premium offering, the 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero will compete against the likes of the Lexus GX, Land Rover Defender, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Range Rover Sport, Audi Q7, BMW X7, and Infiniti QX80.
