The Ford Capri 2025: An Electrifying Evolution of a Classic

The Ford Capri, a beloved sports coupe in Europe, is making a stunning comeback. Originally launched in 1968 and discontinued in 1986, the Capri is now reborn as an all-electric SUV with a twist of classic charm.

Based on the Ford Explorer EV, the new Capri pays homage to its namesake’s sporty heritage. With a shared platform and wheelbase, the Capri and Explorer EV are fundamentally linked, yet distinct in their target audiences. While the Explorer EV leans towards practicality with its spacious trunk, the Capri appeals to those who favor a youthful, athletic style.

The design of the new Ford Capri masterfully blends the muscular aesthetics of the classic Capri coupe with modern touches from the Explorer EV. The headlight shape and faux grille evoke memories of the second-generation Capri, while the boxy rear end with its duck-tail spoiler is a nod to the third-generation model. Standard 19-inch wheels, with 20- and 21-inch options available, complete the dynamic look.

Step inside the 2025 Capri, and you’ll find an interior almost identical to the Explorer EV’s, with a standout 14.6-inch entertainment screen that slides up to reveal a secret lockable storage compartment. The steering wheel exudes a racing vibe, complemented by details inspired by 1970s muscle cars.

The Capri comes loaded with features, including dual-zone climate control, 12-way heated and massaging seats, a head-up display, remote start, and smart key functionality. The Premium version takes luxury a notch higher with a B&O 10-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, and LED Matrix headlights.

Safety is also a priority, with Ford’s technology package offering active parking assist, lane-keeping aid, and a 360-degree camera.

Performance-wise, the standard Capri is equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 282 horsepower, enabling a brisk 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.4 seconds. For those seeking even more power, a dual-motor configuration is available, generating 335 horsepower and reducing the 0-100 km/h time to just 5.3 seconds.

Impressive range is another highlight of the Capri. The standard model, with its 77 kWh battery, can travel up to 627 kilometers on a single charge. Even the more powerful dual-motor version, equipped with a 79 kWh battery, achieves a respectable 592-kilometer range. Fast charging capabilities further enhance convenience, allowing a quick boost from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes.

Assembled in Cologne, Germany, the Ford Capri 2025 starts at $56,180 in Europe, a slight premium over the Explorer EV’s base price.
