Honda HR-V Facelift: A Sleek and Sophisticated Upgrade

According to the June 2024 issue of the Industrial Property Gazette published by the National Office of Intellectual Property, Honda Vietnam has registered for industrial design protection for several new automotive details, including a front bumper, radiator grille, and a portion of the taillights. These features appear to be in line with the HR-V Hybrid recently launched in Japan back in April.

Known as the Vezel in its home market, the Honda HR-V has received a stylish redesign, enhanced technology, and improved safety features. The facelift model sports a more angular and slender radiator grille, while the new front bumper adds a sporty touch with accentuating details that vary across different versions.

The redesigned taillights feature sleek horizontal LED strips, and the rear bumper has been simplified for a more refined look. Inside, the HR-V has been subtly tweaked for improved usability, with a redesigned central control cluster and a centrally-located wireless phone charging pad for easy access by both front passengers.

The Honda HR-V 2024 also introduces an upgraded Honda Sensing active safety technology package, now including three new features: Traffic Jam Assist for congested driving conditions, adaptive headlights, and mitigation for unintended acceleration.

In terms of powertrain, the standard HR-V continues to employ a 1.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline engine, generating 118 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and an all-wheel-drive system.

On the other hand, the HR-V Hybrid combines a 1.5L Atkinson Cycle gasoline engine with an electric motor, resulting in a combined output of 131 horsepower and 253 Nm of torque.

With the registration of industrial design protection, the new Honda HR-V is likely to be introduced in Vietnam soon. The B-sized CUV/SUV segment is currently one of the most competitive in the market, with recent launches such as the Mitsubishi X-Force and Lynk & Co 06. Established contenders like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos also add to the fierce competition. By bringing the facelifted HR-V to the market, Honda is making a strategic move to maintain the appeal of this popular model. In May 2024, the Yaris Cross took the lead in B-SUV sales with 902 units sold, surpassing the X-Force. During the same period, the HR-V recorded sales of 107 units.
