Recent moves from the South Korean automaker indicate that a hatchback version of the K4 car line is imminent, featuring a youthful and modern design aesthetic.
According to Autocar, the Kia K4 was recently spotted undergoing testing in Russelsheim, Germany, by keen-eyed photographers. However, the test vehicle differed from the sedan version introduced in late March 2024, as it was a hatchback model.
A spokesperson for Kia UK told Autocar that the car’s presence in Germany does not necessarily indicate that it will be sold in Europe, and the company currently has no plans to do so. Nonetheless, a clever cameo in the March launch video subtly confirmed the existence of the Kia K4 hatchback variant.
Autocar reports that the hatchback iteration of the Kia K4 will retain the same hardware as its sedan counterpart.
Specifically, the standard engine for the Kia K4 will be a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine, generating 147 horsepower and 179 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a CVT transmission that delivers power to the front wheels.
For the higher-end trim, Kia K4 offers a 1.6L turbocharged engine, producing 190 horsepower and 264 Nm of torque. This variant comes equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
In terms of safety features, the Kia K4 boasts an impressive suite of standard safety equipment, including eight airbags and an advanced ADAS package. This package includes intelligent speed limit assistance, lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go functionality, and forward collision avoidance assistance.
The higher-end models will also include additional driver-assistance features such as collision-avoiding steering assist, second-generation highway driving assist, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot view monitor, 360-degree camera, and parking distance warning.
