The Mitsubishi Pajero large SUV is rumored to make a comeback in 2027 after a long hiatus.
According to Carscoops, rumors of the Mitsubishi Pajero’s potential return in 2027 have been circulating in Japan since the beginning of this year. Domestic sources suggest that the new generation Mitsubishi Pajero will re-emerge as a premium SUV, based on the Outlander platform. While the design of the new Pajero remains a mystery, many believe that its exterior will follow the boxy trend set by the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
Based on leaked information, Filipino designer Enoch Gonzales has created a rendering of the new Mitsubishi Pajero’s exterior.
Enoch Gonzales’ rendering showcases a familiar Dynamic Shield design language associated with Mitsubishi. The grille is larger than its predecessor, accented by two chrome bars. Meanwhile, the T-shaped vertical headlights resemble those of the Hyundai Santa Fe facelift. The body exudes a classic SUV style with its boxy contours. At the rear, the T-shaped taillights mirror the headlights, complemented by a faux spare tire cover.
To enhance the SUV’s luxurious appeal, the designer has opted for a body-colored paint job, sleek door handles, and a clamshell hood. This design direction aligns with recent speculation from Japan that the next-generation Pajero may ascend into the luxury segment.
The new Mitsubishi Pajero is likely to retain the traditional body-on-frame construction, a feature eagerly anticipated by SUV enthusiasts. With the collaboration of Renault and Nissan, this idea can become a reality.
The new Pajero may share components with the upcoming Infiniti QX80 or Nissan Patrol, positioning it as a formidable competitor to the Toyota Land Cruiser J300. Additionally, there are speculations that the Mitsubishi full-size SUV could be equipped with Infiniti’s twin-turbocharged V6 engine and a 4×4 drivetrain.
However, Japanese media outlets predict that the new Pajero will be built on the CMF-C/D platform, utilizing the Outlander’s 2.4L plug-in hybrid engine. While not as impressive as the V6, this option broadens the Pajero’s market reach.
With its elevated positioning, the 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero will compete against the likes of the Lexus GX, Land Rover Defender, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Range Rover Sport, Audi Q7, BMW X7, and Infiniti QX80.
