The All-New Nissan Patrol: A Comprehensive Upgrade to Rival the Land Cruiser 300 Series

First introduced in 1951 and spanning six generations, the Nissan Patrol is a familiar name in markets favoring large SUVs, such as the US and the Middle East. However, its sales and influence have declined due to outdated technology and features compared to rivals like the Toyota Land Cruiser and Ford Expedition. To address this, Nissan is planning to unveil the seventh-generation Patrol, featuring comprehensive upgrades in terms of equipment, design, and engine performance.

According to Nissan’s latest financial report, the new Patrol will be launched in October 2024 and March 2025 in the US market. This SUV will also be introduced in Australia, Asia, and the Middle East around the same time.

The upcoming Nissan Patrol has been spotted undergoing road tests on several occasions. It boasts larger dimensions than its predecessor and a modern, rugged design. The interior has also been enhanced with premium features, positioning it as a competitive alternative to the Land Cruiser 300 Series.

In terms of performance, Nissan has confirmed that its flagship SUV will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 engine, replacing the previous generation’s 5.6L V8. Based on the Infiniti QX80, this new engine delivers an impressive 450 horsepower and 698 Nm of torque. These figures surpass those of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300, which produces 409 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque.

Nissan appears to be lagging in terms of electrification, as the company has stated that the new Patrol will not have a hybrid engine option. A fully electric version is also not expected until at least 2028, when the Japanese automaker plans to have successfully developed solid-state batteries.
