Suzuki Australia’s Managing Director, Michael Pachota, has revealed some exciting news about the Jimny SUV.
According to Pachota, Suzuki is planning to develop three new versions of the Jimny: an electric, a hybrid, and a pickup variant. All three versions are expected to be launched before 2030.
The Suzuki Australia head honcho believes that with the global shift towards electric vehicles, the Suzuki Jimny needs to be equipped with more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines.
Currently, the 1.5L engine of the Jimny is no longer permitted in some markets as it fails to meet emission standards. Hence, the introduction of electric and hybrid versions makes perfect sense.
The electric Jimny will be one of the five electric vehicles that the company plans to launch by 2030.
Another notable development is Suzuki’s intention to create a pickup version of the Jimny. At the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon, the Japanese automaker showcased a concept model, and Suzuki New Zealand has already converted the Jimny into a pickup with the help of local customization companies.
With the rising popularity of pickup trucks, the Jimny pickup promises to be a safe and smart move for Suzuki.
