In a recent development, many were surprised to find that the Lexus IS model was no longer featured on the official website of Lexus Vietnam. According to dealership information, the renowned Japanese luxury car brand has discontinued the distribution of this vehicle.
Introduced in Vietnam in 2021, Lexus IS has not received any upgrades since its launch. The only addition was the F Sport version released in 2022.
Lexus IS initially attracted customers with its sporty and sleek design, coupled with modern features at the time of its release. However, its high price tag, ranging from 2.13 to 2.82 billion VND depending on the trim level, made this sedan less accessible to buyers, resulting in underwhelming sales figures.
While competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3-Series continuously innovate and enhance their offerings to captivate customers, Lexus IS has remained unchanged since its launch nearly four years ago.
In addition to the price and equipment hurdles, Lexus IS has also faced challenges due to shifting consumer preferences. Nowadays, buyers tend to favor SUV models with their higher clearance and versatility over traditional sedans.
Vietnam is not the only market where Lexus IS has been discontinued. Lexus previously halted sales of the IS in the UK in 2020 and Australia in 2021. According to statistical reports, Lexus sold only 1,101 units of the IS in the European market during the first eight months of 2020.
