At Tesla’s 2024 Annual Shareholder Meeting, Elon Musk revealed details about three new electric vehicle models in development.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated at the company’s annual shareholder meeting, “We have some new products that are secretly in development. I think these will be pretty special.”
While details about the new models have not yet been released by the company, two of them have been previously introduced by Tesla. Specifically, one model will feature a large, box-like body and is believed to be a commercial truck, while the second is a compact car.
According to a report by Drive in January 2024, the third electric vehicle model is rumored to be a compact SUV, possibly based on the same platform as the second model—referred to as Tesla’s “next-generation” vehicle architecture.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that at least one of the three new models will be a fully autonomous taxi, built on the next-generation architecture and likely to be called the Cybercab. The second compact car may share a platform with the Tesla Model 3 to reduce costs.
Two of the three illustrated vehicles covered in white cloth look identical, although it is unclear at this stage whether this is significant or simply temporary imagery.
In addition to the two smaller cars, the third model is believed to be a van that can be configured as a commercial vehicle or people-mover, similar to the Mercedes-Benz Vito, Volkswagen Transporter, or Hyundai Staria Load.
Back in July 2022, Elon Musk tweeted about a “high-carrying capacity people and cargo transport” Robovan.
In 2016, the Tesla CEO wrote about the need for a “high passenger-density urban transport” as part of the company’s future plans.
That same year, Musk tweeted that it would “make sense” to build a van based on the pickup truck chassis, alluding to the Cybertruck, which had not yet been revealed at the time.
One of Tesla’s three new electric vehicle models is expected to be unveiled on August 8, 2024, with the next one arriving in the second half of 2025. No specific timing or date has been set for the third model.
