Hyundai Kona Electric makes its way to Vietnam, posing a formidable rival to the VinFast VF 6. With a total of 5 variants and a starting price of 778 million VND, this electric car from Hyundai is a force to be reckoned with.

In February 2024, Hyundai unveiled the Kona Electric 2024 in Southeast Asia at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) held in the island country.

At the event, Mr. Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, Director of Operations of Hyundai Indonesia, shared: “The Kona Electric is Hyundai’s newest model in the small electric SUV segment and will be offered at a more affordable price.”

However, it wasn’t until the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024 that Hyundai officially announced the price and began selling this car in Indonesia.

The Hyundai Kona Electric is assembled and distributed in Indonesia in five variants: Style, Prime Standard Range, Prime Long Range, Signature Standard Range, and Signature Long Range. The car has a starting price of 499-590 million Rupiah (~778-920 million VND).

The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric has dimensions of 4,355 mm in length, 1,825 mm in width, and 1,550 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,660 mm. These measurements are on par with the VinFast VF 6, except for a 70 mm shorter wheelbase.

The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric sports a modern and stylish exterior. Compared to the combustion engine version, the most noticeable difference is at the front of the car.

The Kona Electric 2024 features a closed grille with an integrated charging port. It also has a horizontal LED light bar across the front, with square lamps designed as pixels (called Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamp) instead of a seamless design like the regular version. The front grille on this model is lower. The rear bumper, 17-inch wheels, and taillights are designed according to Hyundai’s Parametric Pixel theme. The high-end version sports 19-inch wheels.

Inside the cabin, the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric retains the modern and digitized design of the regular version. It features a curved screen that combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen. The electronic shift lever is now located behind the steering wheel for a neater look. Meanwhile, the drive mode selector knob is placed on the central control cluster.

Additionally, the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric is equipped with the latest ccNC infotainment system, offering features specifically for electric vehicles, such as optimizing the interior lighting system, battery heating/cooling, and climate control for efficiency, as well as route planning.

The high-end version also includes an 8-speaker Bose sound system, wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, and a smart power tailgate, among other enhancements.

Powering the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric is an electric motor that produces a maximum output of approximately 154 horsepower in the Standard Range version and 214 horsepower in the Long Range version, with a maximum torque of 255 Nm.

The Long Range versions are equipped with a 66 kWh battery, offering a range of 549 km (Signature) or 602 km (Prime). On the other hand, the Standard Range versions use a 48.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering a range of 448 km on the NEDC test cycle.

It remains to be seen whether the Hyundai Kona Electric will be introduced in Vietnam after its launch in Indonesia.
