Tesla’s Cybertruck pickup truck was advertised with a bulletproof body and stone-resistant windows. However, some owners have recently complained that the vehicle is not as durable as promised.
Specifically, a Tesla Cybertruck owner shared a hilarious yet frustrating incident that occurred within 24 hours of taking delivery of the vehicle. While the owner was chatting with his wife, she accidentally swung her hand, and the ring on her finger cracked the windshield of the Cybertruck.
Due to supply chain issues, the company couldn’t immediately replace the broken glass for the customer. Additionally, Tesla does not warranty against such external impacts.
This is not an isolated incident of the Cybertruck being “taken down” by women. Previously, an ice cream seller using a Cybertruck also encountered an angry woman who damaged his vehicle. As a result, all the windows of the pickup truck were left cracked and broken.
Since Tesla did not have spare parts readily available, the owner had to spend a whopping $10,000 (253 million VND) on repairs.
Meanwhile, on the parts catalog, the front window is priced at $260 (6.6 million VND), and the rear window costs $225 (5.7 million VND).
When the Tesla Cybertruck was launched, the company boasted that its windshield could withstand level 4 hail, equivalent to the glass used for solar roofs.
However, the reality turned out to be quite the opposite, raising doubts about Tesla’s vehicle testing and evaluation processes before releasing them to the market.
Specifically, the hail test was conducted on a small 15×45 square inch (or 38x114cm) area, while the windshield on the vehicle is much larger.
This means that the Cybertruck glass has to withstand significantly more tension than Tesla’s solar roof tiles. Additionally, the Cybertruck’s glass is curved and bent at the ends, making it more susceptible to breakage.
Therefore, if the wife’s diamond ring had a hardness of 10 and the glass used in the Tesla Cybertruck had a hardness of 5 or 6, it is understandable how the glass could be cracked.
However, it is puzzling that the company lacks spare parts and takes several weeks just to repair a windshield.
