According to a sales report by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), the total car sales across the market in the first half of 2024 reached 134,884 units, a 2% decrease compared to the same period in 2023.

In contrast to the sales performance of domestically-assembled cars, the imported car segment witnessed a more positive trend, with a total sales volume of 67,035 units, marking a 16% increase from the previous year.

Among the best-selling models, Japanese cars assembled and manufactured in Thailand and Indonesia, and then imported to Vietnam, dominated the market.

Here are the top 5 best-selling imported cars in Vietnam during the first 6 months of 2024.

Mitsubishi Xpander: 7,000 units

As of the first half of 2024, Mitsubishi Xpander has emerged as the most popular car model in Vietnam, with 7,773 new units delivered to customers, out of which 7,000 were imported.

The Mitsubishi Xpander boasts a modern design and impressive features. It is equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, it features an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, leather seats, automatic air conditioning with a quick cool function, rear seat charging ports, electronic parking brake, and auto hold function.

Under the hood, the Mitsubishi Xpander is powered by a 1.5-liter engine that delivers 104 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Currently, the Mitsubishi Xpander is available in Vietnam in 4 trim levels: MT, AT, AT Premium, and Xpander Cross, with prices ranging from 560 to 698 million VND.

With the exception of the domestically-assembled manual transmission version, all automatic transmission variants of the Xpander sold in Vietnam are imported from Indonesia.

Ford Everest: 4,442 units

Ford Everest recorded a total sales volume of 4,442 units in the first 6 months of 2024, an increase of 31 units compared to the same period last year.

The new-generation Ford Everest showcases a completely revamped exterior design, exuding a more masculine and robust appearance.

The interior of the Everest has also been fully redesigned by Ford engineers, reflecting a modern and dynamic ambiance, in line with the traditional spirit of American cars. Departing from the bulky design of its predecessor, the new Everest embraces a bold and sleek aesthetic defined by sharp, mechanical lines.

Notable features inside the cabin include an 8-inch or 12-inch digital instrument cluster, a new steering wheel with integrated function buttons, a 10-inch or 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and an 8-speaker audio system.

The Ford Everest is powered by a 2.0-liter diesel engine, offered in two variants: bi-turbo and single turbo. The top-of-the-line Titanium+ model is equipped with the bi-turbo engine, all-wheel drive, an electronic dial for terrain management, and selectable drive modes for tackling challenging terrain. The remaining variants are fitted with the single turbo engine and rear-wheel drive.

The Ford Everest is currently available in Vietnam as a fully imported model from Thailand, offering 6 trim levels with prices ranging from 1.099 to 1.545 billion VND.

Mitsubishi Xforce: 3,890 units

Alongside the Mitsubishi Xpander, the recently launched Xforce has quickly risen to the top of the B-SUV segment, with cumulative sales of 3,890 units as of June 2024, despite deliveries only starting in March.

Designed specifically for the Southeast Asian market, particularly Vietnam, the Xforce boasts an array of outstanding features. Currently, the Xforce is imported from Indonesia and offered in Vietnam in 4 trim levels: GLX, Exceed, Premium, and Ultimate, with prices ranging from 599 to 705 million VND.

Toyota Yaris Cross: 3,750 units

Toyota delivered a total of 3,750 units of the Yaris Cross to customers during the first 6 months of 2024.

Introduced to the Vietnamese market in September 2023, the Toyota Yaris Cross quickly established its position. It is currently available in Vietnam as a fully imported model from Indonesia, offering two trim levels with prices set at 650 and 765 million VND.

Adopting the design language of “Strength and Dynamism,” the Yaris Cross exudes a robust and dynamic SUV aesthetic. Its bold trapezoidal grille and front bumper design, coupled with angular headlights and fog lights, contribute to its modern and sporty appeal.

Inside the cabin, the Toyota Yaris Cross 2023 impresses with a host of features, including a 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and voice control, wireless charging, electronic parking brake with auto hold, user-friendly automatic climate control, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters (on the gasoline model), a panoramic sunroof with an electrically operated sunshade, and customizable interior ambient lighting.

Under the hood, the Toyota Yaris Cross 2023 offers two powertrain options. The first is a 1.5-liter Dynamic Force gasoline engine (code name 2NR-VE) with 4 cylinders, producing 105 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The second option is a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine generating 89 horsepower and 121 Nm of torque with an electric motor that delivers 79 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque. The hybrid system also includes a lithium-ion battery and an e-CVT transmission.

Honda HR-V: 2,434 units

The Honda HR-V is another popular imported car in Vietnam, with a total sales volume of 2,434 units in the first half of 2024.

The Honda HR-V stands out in its segment with a unique design that blends the sleek profile of a coupe with the practicality of a crossover, complemented by a fastback-style rear end that accentuates its sporty character.

It boasts a host of convenient features, including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 7-inch multi-information display, and a modern instrument cluster with two round dials and an intuitive display.

Additionally, the Honda HR-V comes with a sporty steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and enhanced air conditioning with three cooling modes.

The Honda HR-V offers two powertrain options. The first is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine available on the HR-V L and RS trim levels, delivering 174 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a CVT transmission and offers a combined fuel economy of approximately 6.7 liters per 100 kilometers.

The second option is a 1.5-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine, found in the G trim level, producing 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. This engine is also mated to a CVT transmission.

Currently, the Honda HR-V is imported from Thailand and offered in Vietnam in 3 trim levels: G, L, and RS, with prices ranging from 699 to 871 million VND.
