The owner of the lucky number plate 51D-999.99, which was recently auctioned off by Ho Chi Minh City, wasted no time in advertising it for sale on social media.
The number plate sold for VND 3.58 billion at the auction on the morning of July 22. The seller revealed that although they have received offers of over VND 4 billion for the plate, they are holding out for a higher price, with expectations of reaching VND 5 billion.
This is actually the second time that the number plate 51D-999.99 has been up for auction. The first time was on April 19, when it was sold for VND 6.21 billion, but the winning bidder backed out and forfeited their deposit.
In Vietnamese folk beliefs, a number plate with five consecutive nines is considered extremely lucky and rare, symbolizing the owner’s prestige. The number 9 is already seen as a lucky number, representing completeness and fulfillment, but a sequence of “9999” is even more special. The combination of five nines, or “Ngũ Cửu” in Vietnamese, is believed to bring the owner lasting prosperity and success in their career.
Additionally, the number 9 is known as the “king of numbers” in Vietnamese culture, representing the convergence of a hundred rivers into the vast ocean.
The fact that this quintuple nine plate also includes the number 51, which is associated with Ho Chi Minh City, makes it even more desirable.
