Land Rover has recently unveiled the Defender OCTA – the pinnacle of this SUV’s off-road capabilities. According to the manufacturer, the Defender OCTA underwent nearly 14,000 tests in various regions worldwide over three years to ensure it delivers a unique driving experience compared to its market competitors.
The highlight of the Defender OCTA is its all-new engine, designed by BMW. Under the hood, you’ll find a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with a mild-hybrid system, delivering an impressive 626 horsepower – a significant jump from the standard model. The SUV’s torque peaks at 750 Nm and can be temporarily boosted to 800 Nm when the launch control function is activated.
With this powerful engine, the Defender OCTA sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just four seconds, making it the quickest Defender to date. However, it’s the SUV’s off-road prowess that truly sets it apart.
The Defender OCTA sits 28 mm higher and is 68 mm wider than the standard models. Its chassis has been upgraded with longer and stiffer wishbones, complemented by the new 6D Dynamics suspension system, which enhances its off-road capabilities. Additionally, the SUV is equipped with semi-active hydraulic linkage dampers that reduce body roll and improve articulation when tackling rough terrain.
One of the Defender OCTA’s standout features is its ability to automatically adjust driving settings thanks to its road surface condition-monitoring technology. Drivers can also manually tweak the settings for the steering, throttle, and suspension. There’s also a new driving mode called “OCTA,” where the off-road launch control function is activated, and the ABS is optimized for poor road conditions. Other driving modes include Sand, Grass Gravel Snow, and Rock Crawl, ensuring the SUV is ready for any terrain.
The Defender OCTA’s exterior exudes rugged sophistication, featuring 33-inch Goodyear Advanced All-Terrain tires, widened wheel arches, a redesigned front bumper, and a new rear bumper with four trapezoidal exhaust tips.
Inside, the Defender OCTA offers a range of upholstery options, from non-woven fabric to semi-aniline leather. The audio system has also been fine-tuned, promising an immersive acoustic experience.
The Defender OCTA will make its debut at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed. It will be available in the US, with a starting price of $152,000 (~3.87 billion VND).
