Consumer Reports, a renowned American consumer advice magazine, has recently released a list of the best electric vehicles in the world.

The list comprises 14 models selected from 50 vehicles that experts test-drove and evaluated based on fundamental criteria, including performance, range, comfort, convenience, and durability.

According to Consumer Reports’ findings, Hyundai and Kia offer the best products in the affordable electric car segment, while Porsche and BMW are the top-rated brands in the luxury electric car category.

The BMW iX, with an impressive score of 84/100, is the highest-rated electric car on the list. It also stands out as the best luxury electric SUV among the selected models. Following closely behind are the Genesis GV60, Lexus RZ, Audi Q4 E-Tron, and Audi Q8 E-Tron.

The BMW i4 secures the second-highest overall score of 83 points and is recognized as the best luxury electric sedan, surpassing the Porsche Taycan, which received 76 points.

Meanwhile, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 takes the top spot in the affordable car category with an impressive score of 83 points, closely followed by the Kia Niro EV with 71 points.

The Kia EV6 leads the pack in the two-row SUV segment with a score of 77 points, while the Tesla Model Y, one of the world’s best-selling electric cars, comes in second with 72 points. The Kia EV9, a three-row SUV, also makes its mark on the list with a notable score of 78 points.

Based on Consumer Reports’ list, Kia and Hyundai emerge as the leading brands in the electric vehicle market. Models such as the Hyundai Ioniq 6, Kia EV6, and Kia EV9 are built on dedicated electric vehicle platforms, optimizing space and maneuverability. Even the Kia Niro EV, which doesn’t utilize an electric vehicle-specific platform, excels in the highly competitive small electric crossover segment.

In the luxury segment, BMW surpasses rivals Porsche and Mercedes-Benz, taking the top spot in electric vehicle sales. BMW’s electric car sales in the first half of the year doubled that of Mercedes-Benz and far exceeded those of Porsche.

However, it is surprising that Tesla, despite its impressive sales figures, doesn’t fare as well in Consumer Reports’ quality assessment, with only the Model Y making it to the list. Notably absent are the latest versions of the Model 3 and the much-anticipated Cybertruck.
