The official Toyota Vietnam website no longer features the small hatchback Toyota Yaris in its product catalog.

Despite being a popular choice for Toyota customers in many regions, the small hatchback Yaris has failed to capture the hearts of Vietnamese consumers. Evidence of this is reflected in its lackluster sales performance, with only eight units sold from the beginning of 2024 until now, ranking it among the slowest-selling models in the market. In response to this situation, it appears that Toyota Vietnam has decided to discontinue this model.

According to the latest updates on the official website, the Toyota Yaris is no longer listed in the product catalog. Additionally, Toyota dealerships have confirmed that they are no longer taking orders for the Yaris, and any sales recorded since the beginning of the year were from previously placed orders.

The decision to halt sales of the Toyota Yaris in Vietnam comes as no surprise given the declining popularity of hatchback vehicles in the country. The increasing prevalence of CUV/SUV crossovers has provided Vietnamese consumers with a wider range of options. These vehicles offer a “higher ride, open engine” design, providing a broader field of vision and adaptability to various terrains, outshining the traditional sedan and hatchback models.

In fact, rumors of the Yaris’ discontinuation in Vietnam surfaced as early as August last year, around the time the Yaris Cross was set to be launched. With its youthful design and array of modern features, this CUV was seen as the perfect successor to the Toyota Yaris. Since the beginning of the year, the Yaris Cross has sold nearly 3,000 units, surpassing competitors like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos to become the second best-selling model in the CUV/SUV crossover segment.
