The Vietnamese automotive market was abuzz at the beginning of April with the entrance of a promising newcomer – OMODA & JAECOO.
Boasting the title of “the world’s fastest-growing global automotive brand”, OMODA & JAECOO has conquered over 40 countries, including some of the most demanding European markets such as the UK, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, and Turkey.
But they didn’t stop there, OMODA & JAECOO set an ambitious goal: to become one of the top 5 automotive brands in Vietnam within a short span of 4 years (from 2024 to 2028). To make this goal a reality, OMODA & JAECOO devised a bold strategy: inaugurating 20 3S dealerships with international standards in 2024.
So, what’s behind the rapid growth of OMODA & JAECOO? And where does this brand originate from?
The force behind OMODA & JAECOO’s swift expansion is none other than the Chery Group from China – a giant in the country’s automotive manufacturing industry. Established in 1997, Chery is a diversified group and one of China’s leading automobile manufacturers, boasting the title of China’s number one automobile exporter for 22 consecutive years. Chery also made its mark as the first Chinese automobile manufacturer to enter the European market.
In 2023, Chery recorded a total production volume of nearly 2 million vehicles, with almost 1 million exported, serving over 14 million customers globally. The group currently employs 80,000 people, including 20,000 R&D experts, and boasts 5 R&D centers and more than 300 research and testing laboratories worldwide. Chery is committed to investing heavily in 13 core technologies, including vehicle platforms, intelligent driving, and electrification. In addition to OMODA & JAECOO, Chery owns a diverse portfolio of brands, ranging from premium to affordable, including Exceed, Chery, Icar, and Jettour.
Strategic Collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR)
Another significant factor driving Chery’s development is its joint venture with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) – the renowned British multinational automobile manufacturer specializing in luxury and SUV vehicles. Established in 2012 and headquartered in Jiangsu Province, China, this joint venture has reaped success over 12 years of collaboration, opening up vast opportunities for Chery in the automotive industry, particularly in the field of premium electric vehicles. The collaboration with JLR brings immense benefits to Chery in terms of suspension system design, while the prestigious Land Rover vehicles serve as a bountiful source of creative inspiration for Chery’s designers.
In a recent interview, Chery’s chairman, Yin Tongyao, confirmed previous rumors that Jaguar Land Rover would be utilizing Chery’s platform architecture. Specifically, Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) will be based on Chery’s modular M3X and E0X platforms, which are currently used for models such as the Exlantix ET, Exlantix ES, Luxeed 7, Luxeed R7, Exeed RX, and Chery Tiggo 9…
The M3X platform can be combined with Chery’s DHT hybrid system, consisting of a gasoline engine coupled with two electric motors through the 3DHT165 transmission. A few years ago, this transmission was the first in the world to use two electric motors simultaneously. The E0X platform employs high-voltage 800V charging technology, with an energy consumption of 12kWh/100km, and incorporates advanced driver-assistance systems. E0X can also be equipped with air suspension, making it a premium platform suitable for pure electric and EREV vehicles.
OMODA & JAECOO Captures the Vietnamese Market with a Breakthrough Strategy
The OMODA & JAECOO automotive brand officially enters the Vietnamese market with a breakthrough strategy, promising to deliver fresh and impressive experiences to customers. To realize their ambition of conquering the Vietnamese market, OMODA & JAECOO has chosen to collaborate with two industry giants: Geleximco Group – one of the most reputable investment and business groups in Vietnam, and Chery – China’s leading automobile manufacturer.
The first step in OMODA & JAECOO’s presence in Vietnam is the investment in a car manufacturing plant in Thai Binh, with an expected capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles per year. This project is divided into three implementation phases with a total estimated investment of over $800 million. The first phase is expected to be completed in Q1 2026, opening the door to OMODA & JAECOO’s promising journey of conquering the Vietnamese market.
In June, OMODA & JAECOO officially announced its aggressive development strategy in the Vietnamese market, focusing on a global-standard 3S dealership network. As per the plan, the first 20 3S dealerships will be inaugurated in 2024, signifying OMODA & JAECOO’s long-term commitment to providing Vietnamese customers with a perfect purchasing experience and after-sales service. By 2025, the number of 3S dealerships is expected to increase to a minimum of 30, covering extensive provinces and cities nationwide.
Furthermore, OMODA & JAECOO reinforces its position as China’s leading automobile group in exports by bringing a full range of vehicles to the Vietnamese market, including internal combustion engine vehicles, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles, and electric vehicles (EVs). All products incorporate the most advanced technologies from Exceed – Chery Group’s luxury brand, along with the essence inherited from the joint venture with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).
To assure customers of the quality and reliability of its products, OMODA & JAECOO offers an engine warranty of up to 10 years or 1,000,000 km in most countries. This is a strong testament to OMODA & JAECOO’s long-term commitment to accompanying Vietnamese customers.
To meet market demands while the manufacturing plant in Vietnam is under construction, OMODA & JAECOO will officially enter the Vietnamese market by importing completely built-up (CBU) vehicles from Indonesia. The first two strategic models to be introduced in 2024 are the OMODA C5 and JAECOO J7.
With their youthful and dynamic designs, along with advanced technology applications, the OMODA C5 and JAECOO J7 are set to create a new wave in Vietnam’s automotive segment. Inheriting the quality commitment from Chery – China’s leading automobile group, and infused with technological excellence from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) – the renowned multinational automobile manufacturer, these two models are predicted to become the top choice for customers who value youthfulness, individuality, and an enhanced technological experience.
OMODA C5 is expected to launch in Q3 2024, marking the beginning of the OMODA brand’s journey to conquer the Vietnamese market. Following this, the JAECOO J7 will be introduced to customers in Q4 2024, signifying JAECOO’s significant step in solidifying its position in Vietnam.
