Despite facing numerous challenges, Toyota has maintained fairly stable sales figures and remains the world’s best-selling car manufacturer for the first half of this year.
According to a report by Kyodo News Agency on July 30, Toyota’s global sales for the first six months of 2024 reached 5.17 million vehicles, thus retaining its top position in the automotive industry. Of that total, Toyota and Lexus sold a combined 4.89 million vehicles worldwide. Other member brands, Daihatsu and Hino, sold 210,910 and 59,273 vehicles, respectively.
Volkswagen Group came in second, with sales of 4.35 million vehicles in the first half of 2024, a slight dip from 4.37 million in the same period last year.
Although Toyota’s sales figures remain far ahead of its competitors, they represent a 4.7% decrease compared to last year. Given the context of the Japanese automaker’s struggles with data manipulation scandals, experts consider this performance quite positive.
Toyota’s domestic sales in Japan plummeted by 32% to 823,595 vehicles.Â
In China, Toyota’s sales (including Lexus) decreased by 10.8% due to the surge in electric vehicle popularity in Asia’s largest economy.
Conversely, sales in other international markets rose by 3.1% to 4.34 million vehicles, propelled by strong demand in North America and Europe.

Honda Accord: 40 Years of Automotive Excellence
Looking at the Vietnamese car market right now and humorously comparing it, we will see Camry as a well-behaved young girl, not outstanding in every aspect but easily becoming the choice of the “other half”. Teana, on the other hand, is like a dignified and tranquil woman, full of courage. Meanwhile, Mazda6 is like a hot girl, quickly attracting and captivating anyone’s gaze from the first encounter. As for Accord – with the elegance and experiences of a U30 lady, even though she is always praised by everyone, she hides something “difficult to deal with” in the minds of the majority.
