Get ready for an exciting August as the Vietnamese automotive market welcomes a host of new models, with most being brand new arrivals from China, such as the MG7, Haval Jolion, GAC M8, and GAC GS8.
Here’s a preview of the new cars expected to hit the Vietnamese market in August 2024:
Suzuki XL7 Hybrid
According to dealership sources, the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid is set to launch in Vietnam around August. Dealers have started taking deposits for this model, with expected prices exceeding 600 million VND, higher than the previous version.
The 2024 Suzuki XL7 Hybrid, soon to be available in Vietnam, will feature significant upgrades to enhance its competitiveness against strong rivals in the segment, such as the Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Veloz, and Hyundai Stargazer X. Among the new features, Cruise Control is a highly anticipated addition by XL7 owners. The model will also include automatic headlights and automatic folding mirrors.
In terms of design, the new XL7 Hybrid sports chrome trim on the front grille and rearview mirrors. The exterior color palette has been expanded with new options and two-tone color schemes. For the two-tone versions, elements like the roof and side mirrors will be painted black, while chrome trims and rims retain a bright finish.
Likely to be equipped with a new engine, the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid is expected to feature a configuration similar to the Ertiga. This powertrain includes a 1.5L gasoline engine producing 103 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque, paired with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery to assist with acceleration and reduce fuel consumption.
Nissan Almera
According to sales consultants, the 2024 Nissan Almera is expected to arrive in Vietnam in August or September this year. Some Nissan dealerships in Hanoi have started taking orders for this model.
The Nissan Almera will continue to be imported from Thailand. This mid-life cycle upgrade features subtle design tweaks, especially to the front grille area. The V-motion design on the Nissan Almera has been stylized with a trapezoidal center section painted black, while the side grilles are glossy. The latest Nissan logo also adorns the 2024 Almera.
Additionally, the model will be fitted with new wheels. The standard version comes with 15-inch steel rims and silver hubcaps, while the higher-end variant sports 16-inch alloy wheels with a two-tone sporty design.
The Nissan Almera 2024 in Thailand introduces a new exterior color option: Grey Sky Pearl. This color-shifting paint changes from purple in low light conditions to blue under full sunlight.
Inside, the cabin layout remains largely unchanged. However, the standard version now offers Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity when customers purchase the S Plus package. The SV version includes a center armrest and wireless charging pad, while the top-of-the-line SR variant boasts an upgraded 8-inch center screen (up from 7 inches), front-seat heating, and remote engine start, among other features.
Under the hood, the Nissan Almera 2024 continues to be powered by a turbocharged 1.0L 3-cylinder gasoline engine, delivering 100 horsepower and 152 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an Xtronic CVT automatic transmission, enabling impressive fuel efficiency of 23.3 km/l (approximately 4.29 liters/100 km).
In terms of safety, the Nissan Almera 2024 is now equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), automatic headlight assist (HBA), lane departure warning (LDW), and the complete Nissan 360 Safety Shield technology package on the high-end version.
Haval Jolion
Haval initially planned to launch the Jolion in Vietnam in April 2024, but the debut has been postponed until August. The model will be offered in two hybrid versions and one gasoline variant. The gasoline version will be locally assembled but will arrive later. Dealers have started taking deposits for the Jolion, with expected prices exceeding 600 million VND.
Externally, the Jolion showcases a rounded overall design, featuring a cascading grille. The large front headlights are designed in a stylized T shape. The LED headlights are equipped with automatic on/off functionality. The LED taillights also follow a T-shaped design, and the Ultra version includes welcome lights.
The Jolion’s interior embraces the minimalist trend. Behind the leather-wrapped steering wheel sits a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. A 10.3-inch central touchscreen supports Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration. The dual-zone automatic climate control includes rear vents. The sound system features six speakers, and the electronic parking brake comes with an auto-hold function.
The Haval Jolion boasts a range of advanced ADAS safety features, including an emergency call system, pre-collision warning, driver drowsiness monitoring, tire pressure monitoring, hill descent control, automatic emergency braking, electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist, and six airbags.
The Jolion offers a choice of two powertrains: a hybrid system combining a 1.5L gasoline engine with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 190 horsepower and 375 Nm of torque; and a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine producing 147 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque.
MG7
According to dealership sources, the MG7 sedan has been imported into Vietnam and is undergoing the necessary paperwork. Advisors suggest that the model will be launched in the Vietnamese market by the end of August 2024. Dealers are currently taking deposits for this car.
The MG7 is expected to be priced between 700 and 900 million VND, depending on the version.
The MG7 boasts a sporty, muscular, and modern design. The front end stands out with its sharp triangular LED headlights, featuring double LED strips, and side air intakes that enhance the car’s athletic stance. Depending on the configuration, the MG7 will be fitted with 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels, paired with 225/50 or 245/40 tires, respectively.
Inside, the MG7 offers a 5-seat configuration with modern amenities, including a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a prominent 12.3-inch central control touchscreen on the dashboard.
Additional features include a Topload glass roof, an intelligent Zebra Luoshen 8155 cockpit system, the advanced MG PILOT 2.0 intelligent driving assistance system, and a BOSE Premium 9-speaker sound system.
The MG7 offers a choice of two powertrains. The first is a 2.0L engine producing 254 horsepower and 405 Nm of torque, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The second option is a 1.5L engine generating 183 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
GAC M8
According to sources, GAC will introduce the M8 minivan to Vietnam this August.
The GAC M8 borrows design cues from the Lexus LM, featuring a large grille and a distinctive dragon-scale or double-wing pattern. The L-shaped LED headlights, positioned upside down, resemble those found on Peugeot models. Chrome accents and matrix LED front and rear lights further enhance the M8’s presence.
Step inside the GAC M8, and you’ll find a blend of premium materials and modern technology. The dashboard showcases a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen on the GX and GL versions, respectively, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, an 8-speaker sound system, and tri-zone climate control. The GX Master trim adds a navigation system, wireless charging, USB ports, and an aromatic fragrance system.
The M8 offers a 2-2-3 seating configuration, with the middle row featuring two business-class seats. The GAC M8’s seats are fully adjustable, and the second row in the GX trim includes a tray table, a button to slide the passenger seat forward, memory function, sunshades, and a panoramic sunroof. By folding down the third row and sliding the second row forward, this 7-seater can transform into a mobile conference room for four people.
In China, the GAC M8 is offered with gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The gasoline option is a 2.0L turbocharged engine producing 252 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
GAC GS8
Alongside the M8 minivan, GAC is expected to unveil the GS8 SUV in Vietnam this August.
The GAC GS8 is developed based on the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado platform, showcasing a bold and angular design. The front end is characterized by a large grille with either a dragon-scale or double-wing pattern. The LED headlights are vertically positioned, and the GS8 rides on 20-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the SUV features distinctive ‘H’-shaped taillights and large square exhaust pipes for a sporty touch.
The GAC GS8 offers a 7-seat configuration with an optional business-class middle row in China. The interior is relatively modern, featuring a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch floating infotainment screen, and an 8155 chip for swift and smooth information processing. Higher-end versions will include a business-class middle row with a center armrest housing various controls.
In terms of safety, the GS8 is equipped with driver-assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic parking assist.
In China, the GAC GS8 is offered with two powertrains. The gasoline version uses a 2.0L engine producing 252 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The second option is a hybrid powertrain supplied by Toyota, combining a 190-horsepower gasoline engine with a 182-horsepower electric motor and an E-CVT transmission.
