At the recent SNE Battery Day 2024 Expo in Seoul, Samsung officially unveiled its latest battery technology.

The company has successfully developed a solid-oxide battery that can be super-fast charged in just 9 minutes.

Samsung’s solid-state battery also boasts a lighter weight and enhanced safety features due to its stable thermal balance. Moreover, the new battery technology offers an energy density of approximately 500 watt-hours per kg, enabling electric vehicles using these batteries to achieve a range of up to 965 km per charge.

It is highly likely that by 2027, Samsung’s new solid-state battery will be integrated into Toyota’s premium models, such as Lexus.

While this breakthrough by Samsung elevates the performance of electric vehicles, the current infrastructure of charging stations seems inadequate to support this super-fast charging technology.

Additionally, the production cost of solid-state batteries for electric vehicles is about 3 to 4 times higher than that of Lithium-ion and LFP batteries currently used in electric vehicles. This is the reason why this type of battery will be integrated into premium Lexus models before becoming available in more affordable vehicles.
