Toyota Unveils the Starlet Cross: A Compact and Affordable CUV for Emerging Markets

In recent years, Toyota has been consistently introducing new small CUVs in various markets, alongside updating existing models. Their latest offering is the all-new Starlet Cross 2024, launched in the South African market. However, this vehicle is essentially a rebadged version of the Urban Cruiser Taisor, which was introduced in India back in April.

According to the manufacturer, the Starlet Cross measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,765 mm in width, and 1,550 mm in height. This positions it as a compact A-segment CUV, competing against the likes of the Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet.

The exterior of the Starlet Cross boasts a sporty design with sharp, angular lines. The front end features a two-tier headlight setup, complemented by a hexagonal grille and a chrome bar connecting the daytime running lights. The rear section showcases a sleek, continuous taillight design, a roof spoiler, and an elevated rear bumper.

Inside, the Toyota Starlet Cross 2024 is equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. It also features an analog instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, wireless charging, and a head-up display (HUD).

Under the hood, the Starlet Cross is powered by a Toyota-built 1.5-liter gasoline engine, unlike the Urban Cruiser Taisor’s 1.2L and 1.0L Suzuki-sourced engines. This engine delivers 103 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm.

As an affordable option, the Starlet Cross comes with standard safety features such as vehicle stability control, hill-start assist, anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and six airbags.

The Toyota Starlet Cross 2024 is offered in four trim levels, with prices ranging from 414 to 500 million VND (Vietnamese Dong).
