Sime Darby Group from Malaysia and Porsche AG from Germany have recently announced the completion of their joint investment to upgrade their assembly facility in Kulim, Kedah, Malaysia.
While the financial details of the investment remain undisclosed, it is known that the Porsche plant in Kulim has expanded its area by an additional 11,000 square meters.
This facility will specialize in assembling the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid Coupe, marking the first time a Porsche model is being assembled in Malaysia and exported to Thailand.
To date, this plant has produced over 2,000 Porsche Cayennes and is now ready to assemble plug-in hybrid vehicles for export.
The expansion of Sime Darby and Porsche’s production base to export the Cayenne to Thailand underscores the importance of the Southeast Asian market to Porsche. It is also seen as a region with high potential that many automotive brands are keen to tap into.
The Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid in Malaysia is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining a 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine that produces 350 horsepower with an electric motor generating 170 horsepower.
This powertrain delivers a total output of 520 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque, enabling the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 263 km/h. With a 25.9 kWh battery, the vehicle offers an all-electric range of 90 kilometers.
In Malaysia, the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid is expected to be priced at over 600,000 ringgit (approximately 3.2 billion VNĐ).
