According to The Japan Times, Japan’s Ministry of Transportation has
conducted inspections at Honda and Mazda’s head offices as part of an
investigation into testing irregularities involving a total of five automotive
manufacturers in the country.
Last week, the ministry’s inspection team also inspected the headquarters of
Toyota, Yamaha, and Suzuki after irregularities were found in their applications
for certification of mass production.
The Japan Times reported that the Ministry of Transportation is
investigating the details of these irregularities and examining whether there
are any other violations.
After completing the investigations, the ministry will conduct tests on all 38
affected models to confirm whether they meet the approval standards.
In the event that the above-mentioned models meet the standards, the Ministry of
Transportation will lift the shipment suspension for six models of Toyota, Mazda,
and Yamaha.

According to Japanese media, Honda’s violations include testing irregularities
involving noise tests on 22 models, including the Honda Jazz, Honda CR-Z, Honda
Legend, Honda Accord, Honda Insight, Honda Odyssey, and Honda NSX. However, the
manufacturer confirmed that these models are no longer in production and are not
related to current models on the market.
Meanwhile, Mazda stated that a total of five models were involved in
irregularities in the application for certification, including the use of
counterfeit software in engine tests. Mazda has halted production and shipping of
the Roadster RF and Mazda2 in the Japanese market.
After the testing scandal at Daihatsu, a Toyota subsidiary, was exposed, the
Ministry of Transportation requested 85 domestic automotive manufacturers and
importers to investigate irregularities in their certification applications. As
a result, Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha reported some irregularities
in their tests as part of the application process for certification.
Toyota stated that their violations occurred in six different tests conducted
in 2014, 2015, and 2020. The affected models include the Toyota Corolla Fielder,
Toyota Corolla Axio, and Toyota Yaris Cross, as well as discontinued versions of
the Toyota Crown, Toyota Isis, Toyota Sienta, and Lexus RX.
Yamaha has ordered a sales halt for the YZF-R1 motorcycle in Japan, while Suzuki
was found to have falsified brake test results on the Alto hatchback variant.
