Fang Cheng Bao is a sub-brand of BYD, a Chinese automotive company considered one of the pillars of the country’s automotive industry. BYD recently started selling electric vehicles in Vietnam last month, and while it’s unclear if they plan to bring the Fang Cheng Bao models to the country, they are busy with several important projects back home, one of which is the launch of the Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8.
Prior to the official launch of the Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8, detailed images and interior information of the vehicle were revealed two months ago. Today, the latest update on this model includes battery specifications disclosed by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Specifically, the Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8 will be equipped with a 36.864 kWh LFP Blade battery from FinDreams, a BYD subsidiary. This battery pack weighs 300 kg. The curb weight of the Bao 8 reaches a massive 3,305 kg, resulting in an all-electric range of 100 kilometers.
According to the regulatory filing, the fuel consumption of this giant beast is 8.87 liters/100 km. Under the hood, the top-of-the-line Fang Cheng Bao SUV features a 2-liter turbocharged BYD487ZQD engine that produces 200 kW (268 hp).
This internal combustion engine is paired with two electric motors that deliver 200 kW (268 hp) and 300 kW (402 hp) respectively. There is no information available regarding the combined range of the Bao 8. The acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is 4.8 seconds, and the top speed is 180 km/h.
The Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8 is a large SUV that continues the design style of the FCB Bao 5. The front of the vehicle features a large bumper, blocky headlights, and a trapezoidal grille. The Bao 8 is equipped with LiDAR sensors on the roof, flush door handles, and wide wheel arches. At the rear, the vehicle sports vertical taillights and a rear door that opens to reveal a full-size spare tire.
The Bao 8 features a DMO plug-in hybrid drive system. Its dimensions are 5195/1994/1875 mm, with a wheelbase of 2920 mm. The approach and departure angles are an impressive 30/29 degrees. Inside, the Bao 8 offers two interior layout variants: a 6-seater and a 7-seater.
The Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8 is set to launch this year with a price tag of 500,000 Chinese yuan (approximately $69,600), which is equivalent to 1.63 billion Vietnamese dong.
Fang Cheng Bao is a premium off-road vehicle brand launched by BYD in 2023. Their current lineup includes only one model, the SUV Bao 5 (Leopard 5). FCB recently made headlines by reducing the price of the Bao 5 to boost sales. This year, BYD plans to introduce two new models: the electric crossover Bao 3 and the off-road Bao 8 PHEV.
