Mazda Confirms All-New Electric Sedan: EZ-6

Mazda is gearing up to unveil its all-new electric sedan, the Mazda EZ-6, later this fall. This vehicle is a collaboration between the Japanese brand and Chinese automaker Changan, positioned as the successor to the soon-to-be-discontinued Mazda6.

The EZ-6 shares a platform with the Deepal SL03, another sedan under the Changan umbrella, but sports Mazda’s signature KODO design language.

The Mazda EZ-6 boasts dimensions of 4,921 x 1,890 x 1,485 mm (length x width x height), notably larger than the current Mazda6 (4,865 x 1,840 x 1,450 mm).

The car’s design has a sporty flair, featuring a fastback-style sloping roof and an active spoiler on the trunk lid. The front grille catches the eye with its 3D-style design, accented by an LED light ring around its perimeter. Slim daytime running lights, a Mazda trademark, sit on either side, while the main headlights are positioned lower down.

At the rear, the signature circular LED taillights remain, now connected by a full-width LED strip. The Mazda logo has been replaced with the word “MAZDA” spelled out.

The Mazda EZ-6 showcases a modern and minimalist interior, with most controls integrated into a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the center of the dashboard. The steering wheel and 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster resemble those found in the Deepal SL03. The sedan features a premium Sony sound system instead of the usual Bose setup found in other Mazda models. Additionally, it includes ambient lighting.

The Mazda EZ-6 benefits from Changan Automobile’s leading artificial intelligence and electrification technologies. It features Level 2.5 autonomous driving capabilities, a Qualcomm SA8155P 7nm chip, four high-resolution surround-view cameras, and twelve high-performance ultrasonic radars. These enable features like automatic parking, remote parking, smart parking, and trace parking.

While full specifications and equipment details for the EZ-6 are not yet available, Mazda has confirmed that the sedan will offer the same powertrain options as the Deepal SL03, including pure electric and hybrid configurations. The electric version features a rear-mounted motor producing either 215 or 255 horsepower, paired with a choice of 58.9 kWh or 66.8 kWh battery packs.

The hybrid setup combines a 1.5L inline-four gasoline engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of either 215 or 235 horsepower.

According to Mazda’s official statement, the all-electric version offers a range of nearly 600 kilometers, while the PHEV variant can go up to 1,000 kilometers on a single charge.

As the successor to the Mazda6, the EZ-6 is likely to be introduced globally and could also make its way to the Vietnamese market after its international debut.
