B-segment Sedan Sales Figures for July 2024 (in units)

Toyota Vios: 1,745 units

July 2024 marked a highly successful month for the Toyota Vios, with a remarkable 126.9% growth in sales, totaling 1,745 units. With these impressive results, the Toyota model surpassed its rival, the Hyundai Accent, to claim the top spot in the B-segment sedan category.

Toyota Vios

This achievement can be partly attributed to the attractive incentives offered by the manufacturer during July 2024. Toyota is continuing these incentives into August, including a 50% discount on registration fees and a promotional interest rate of 4.99% per annum. The registration fee discount for this B-segment sedan is capped at VND 23 million for the E MT version, VND 25 million for the E CVT version, and VND 27 million for the G CVT version.

The Toyota Vios is currently priced between VND 458 million and VND 545 million. For this price, customers can expect notable features such as LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, new 15-inch alloy wheels, a steering wheel with paddle shifters, a larger 9-inch central touchscreen display with smartphone connectivity, a USB Type C port for rear passengers, seven airbags, a pre-collision warning system (PCS), and a lane departure alert (LDA) system.

Under the hood, the Toyota Vios is equipped with a 1.5L inline-four gasoline engine that delivers 107 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Hyundai Accent: 985 units

Similar to its rival, the Hyundai Accent also experienced sales growth compared to the previous month, although at a more modest rate of 1.7%. With 985 units sold, the Hyundai Accent secured the second position in the B-segment sedan category for July. However, when considering year-to-date sales, the Accent remains the top-selling model in this segment.

Hyundai Accent

The Hyundai Accent received a significant update in May 2024, introducing a new generation with four variants and prices ranging from VND 439 million to VND 569 million. This new generation brings a comprehensive redesign, enhanced features, and an improved engine.

Specifically, the Accent now boasts LED lighting from front to back, 16-inch alloy wheels, power-adjustable and heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and seats, cooled front seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch central touchscreen display, a six-speaker audio system, automatic climate control, rear air vents, and wireless phone charging.

Moreover, the Accent has been substantially upgraded in terms of safety features, now offering six airbags, a rearview camera, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), forward collision-avoidance assist (FCA), blind-spot collision-avoidance assist (BCA), rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist (RCCA), high beam assist (HBA), lane following assist (LFA), and leading vehicle departure alert (LVDA).

Under the hood, the Hyundai Accent 2024 is powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine that generates 115 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Honda City: 744 units

In July 2024, Honda sold a total of 744 City units, representing a significant growth rate of 67.9%. This performance maintains the Honda City’s position as the third best-selling model in the segment.

Honda City

For August 2024, Honda is offering a 100% discount on registration fees for the G and L versions of the City. Meanwhile, the range-topping RS version comes with a 50% discount on registration fees and an additional year of free hull insurance. The registration fee discounts for these three versions are valued at VND 56 million, VND 59 million, and VND 30 million, respectively.

Compared to its competitors in the segment, the Honda City has a notably higher price tag, ranging from VND 559 million to VND 609 million. This is a significant disadvantage for the Honda model when competing against the Toyota Vios and Hyundai Accent.

However, the Honda City makes up for this with its eye-catching design, spacious interior, and rich features. Notably, it is also one of the few models in the segment to offer advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) as standard.

Furthermore, the City is highly regarded for its driving experience within the B-segment sedan category. It is equipped with a 1.5L i-VTEC four-cylinder DOHC gasoline engine that produces 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Mazda2: 425 units

The Mazda2 also experienced a successful month in July 2024, with sales increasing by 17.7% to a total of 425 units.

Mazda2

The Mazda2 Sedan is competitively priced, ranging from VND 408 million to VND 534 million. Additionally, the model appeals to Vietnamese consumers with its attractive design.

Notable features of the Mazda2 include LED lighting, 16-inch wheels, a 7-inch central touchscreen display, a six-speaker audio system, paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a blind-spot monitoring system (BSM), and a rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA) system.

Powering the Mazda2 is a 1.5L Skyactiv-G four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 110 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Mitsubishi Attrage: 247 units

In contrast to the previous models, the Mitsubishi Attrage experienced a decline in sales during July, with only 247 units sold, representing a 10.8% decrease.

Mitsubishi Attrage

For August, Mitsubishi is offering incentives for the Attrage, including a 100% discount on registration fees and a free shark fin antenna worth VND 1.5 million for the CVT Premium version with a 2023 VIN. The CVT Premium version with a 2024 VIN and the CVT version will receive a 50% discount on registration fees, along with a free shark fin antenna. Meanwhile, the base MT version comes with a 100% discount on registration fees and a free rearview camera. The registration fee discount for this B-segment sedan ranges from VND 24 million to VND 46 million.

In addition to these incentives, the Mitsubishi Attrage has one of the most affordable price tags in the segment, ranging from VND 380 million to VND 490 million. Unfortunately, the model falls short in terms of design, convenience features, safety equipment, and engine performance.

The Mitsubishi Attrage is powered by a 1.2L MIVEC three-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 77 horsepower and 100 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or an INVECS continuously variable transmission.

Kia Soluto: 38 units

Similar to previous months, the Kia Soluto continued to have the lowest sales in the B-segment sedan category in July 2024, with only 38 units sold, representing a 15.5% decrease. Additionally, the model was among the ten worst-selling cars in the market during the same period.

Kia Soluto

The Kia Soluto’s strongest advantage is its competitive pricing, ranging from VND 386 million to VND 482 million. However, its exterior design, convenience features, and safety equipment are less appealing to consumers.

The Kia Soluto is equipped with a 1.4L four-cylinder gasoline engine that generates 94 horsepower and 132 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
