A Tesla customer in India recently shared that he had ordered a Model 3 in April 2016, but after a 7-year wait, he still hasn’t received his car.

Vishal Gondal has not received any delivery updates from Tesla since placing his order.

When he reserved the Tesla Model 3 in April 2016, Gondal was unaware of the on-road price or the delivery timeline. However, due to his enthusiasm for Tesla’s new model, he paid the requested deposit of $1,000 (approximately 25 million VND at the current exchange rate).

Initially, he expected to receive his car within a maximum of two years, but in reality, seven years have passed without any sign of the vehicle.

After a long wait, Vishal Gondal decided to give up and purchase an Audi SUV for his use.

He had to go through a tedious process and fulfill various requirements set by Tesla to get his deposit refunded.

According to some information, the Model 3 was only introduced into mass production towards the end of 2017. As a result, the company prioritized deliveries in North America, followed by Europe, Asia, and the Pacific countries, and finally, markets with right-hand drive configurations.

In reality, it’s not just Vishal Gondal who has experienced this issue; Hemant Suthar, a designer from Mumbai, also waited six years without any delivery updates. Fortunately, he eventually received a refund for his deposit.

In early 2022, the electric car giant, Tesla, was still working on resolving issues related to import duties on electric vehicles in India.

It wasn’t until March that India announced a policy to reduce import duties for electric cars for companies that committed to investing at least $500 million (12.5 trillion VND) and starting domestic production within three years. Thanks to this regulation, companies can now import 8,000 electric vehicles per year with a 15% tax rate.

It is known that Tesla plans to invest $2-3 billion in the future to build a new factory in India.
